So our ICSI journey starts in 2012!

Hi Ladies

Its been a while since I last posted but its always been in the trying to conceive/2ww forum.

I cant quite believe that 5 months of Clomid didnt work and that we are now applying for funding from our local hospital for ICSI

We are now preparing ourselves physically and mentally for what is about to come. We complete our application in February and hope to hear very soon after that.

I would love to hear from anyone else who is preparing themselves for IVF or ICSI to share this journey with.

Wishing all you other mummies to be lots of baby dust!

Hi. We had an appointment last august where the nurse advised us to keep trying to conceive naturally for another 6 months(The problem is with OH, so we haven't been given anything else to try). So we left with another appointment for February.
So if nothing happens by then, we will start our ICSI journey too. We have been told that we will qualify for funding but we haven't been told anything about how to apply yet, so not sure when we will officially get started.
It would be good to share the journey with someone.

Yes we had an appointment in July (we got told to keep trying too-sadly the consultant told us that if it happened it would be a miracle -not good to hear as you can imagine) and got told we qualify too and our consultant said we could go forward last July, we hadnt been trying for long enough at that point and he had misread our notes so our excitment was shortlived.
We were told if we had not conceived by December to let them know and they would begin the process. I rang them mid december and got told we needed to see her but she couldnt see us until February so for 6 months we thought that a referral would go through in december, so we are playing the waiting game until february 7th. We only got our appt letter last week so before then I was so anxious to know when they would next see us. Its awful just waiting, isnt it??

Im just glad we have the open evening of our chosen clinic to look forward too, we booked ourselves into the open evening as we heard that it helps to go and speed up the process but how realistic that is I dont know. It may be worth finding out if any clinics near you offer the same, as they book up quickly.

I notice your from west midlands, wherabouts in the west midlands are you?

My OH has the issues too, I was given Clomid for 5 months because of irregular cycles, it helped but I think that was to passify me to get to December. I've also had two blood tests done and a scan since July, have they offered you anything at all in the mean time or plan to do anyhting before Feb?

Whether different places do things differently but we were told that an application form needs to be completed, I have to have my height and weight done again to ensure im within the correct BMI level and we have to sign a statement saying we have been trying for the length of time they say otherwise you have to pay it back.
It takes about 3-4 days apparantly for the nurse to get a reply back from the commisioners/board of governers who decide on funding and from then on, who knows. Hope that helps a bit.

Will this be your first child?

OOps, p.s. thank you for replying.

We haven't booked in for any open evenings yet, they didn't mention it but we will have to book on one. But we were able to book the feb appt when we were there in august so at least we don't have to wait for another appt to come through.

I had an internal scan of my ovaries at my last appointment and had some bloods done after. OH had to have another SA done and it took him until November to work up to having it done- apparently It's not a pleasant experience. But it's done now! Other than that, we are just dtd regularly although we decided to not think about it too much this month especially with Xmas - we had the inlaws staying with us at the start of my fertile period so we didn't manage any. They haven't told us to try anything else, my cycles are pretty regular though so that may be why.

I agree with you though, waiting is the hardest bit.
This will be our first baby- what about you? We have been trying for 2 years now- I'm 35 so time is ticking on for us. I did get a bfp last march just after getting my gp to refer us to CRM in Coventry (15 months after first trying) but sadly that ended in a mc early so after a couple more months trying we made the appt. That may be why they suggested we wait for another 6 months.

That and I was 0.1 over the BMI limit of 30 so I needed to lose some weight. I have since lost 20lb but may have put a few on over Xmas
Back to slimming world tomorrow to tryand lose a bit more before February so I can make sure my BMI is below 30!

It would be good to share our ICSI journey!

This will be our first baby too and we have been trying now for a year; doesnt seem like a long time compared to how long others have waited for their treatment, however as im sure you will agree its just very difficult knowing that its not working and that we have to rely on other people to make it happen. Im so sorry to hear about your m/c and having to wait an additional 6months after that must have been very difficult for you and your OH.

We knew before trying that my OH had issues but we didnt realise how bad and we are now at the stage where consultants think his body is attacking his own sperm so we just dont know what will happen.
We are both 28 years old so the age thing hasnt come into it for us at the moment but we didnt expect a referral to even a consultant let alone potentially for a fertility clinic and we know these things can take sooo long and we really did it to see if there was anything that my OH could have treatment wise. We are lucky really as to how quickly things have happened for us.

Im also on a diet too, my bmi is ok but near the limit so im determined to get it down a bit more so I know we are ok for definate. Im also taking vitamins etc as is the OH, were cuting out alcohol, limiting caffeine and eating plenty of fruit/veg etc. He is also eating a variety of seeds (who knows if it helps but thats what we have read many times)
I know one day it will all be worth it so i dont mind cutting down on choccy either lol
Ive also read research results that acupunture for fertility can help too so I may have a look into that but I shall wait to see what the clinic suggests.

My OH has done so many semen analysis tests now he just gets on with it but the vitamins he has been taking seem to have helped the results of the most recent result and doubled the volume to 6million per ml. He is now taking a combination vitamin so hopefully that continues to help.

I look forward to keeping in contact with you.

Hello Ladies

I am new to this site, and I am so thankful that I have finally found someone to talk to I am going out of my mind,

I wanted to share my story hope you don't mind

Me and my boyfriend have been trying for children 14years, we have had IVF 2 times then we was half way through the 3rd but had to stop as they found a polyp.. and now we have been given a chance of ICSI which was such a blessing because we was told at one point our only option would be adoption,

I have PCOS and was only told after about 6years of trying when they done a laparoscopy, This is our very last chance ever in our lives but I am not sure what the sucess rate is? I have looked everywhere but different pages say different rates, we are due to start very soon,

I would really love to chat and help anyone who has any questions or advice for me

Thanks
