Heavenly, thank you so much for your thoughtful comments. It totally makes sense to me.

I discussed DE with the FS. He said Asian donors are not as rare as I imagined. He also said that we will get to specify our preferences, including things like height, weight, race, etc, when we pick a donor. The price for a fresh DE egg cycle is steep! $25k to $30k. YIKES!!

I will try a cycle with my own eggs first before shelling out the big bucks. I'm still in sticker shock I asked him my chances of live birth with my own eggs and he said 25%. That seems a little high. I wonder if he got the stats mixed up with a lady of less advanced years. It didn't occur to me until I left so I'll ask him the next time i see him.

25% is pretty good! That will be a decision for you to make. I don't blame you at all for having a cycle with your own eggs first. Totally makes sense. I am not ruling out anything, I have an open mind. See what the Director of the Clinic says after she reviews mine and OH's test results. I would love a go with my eggs, but finances are stretched, so if we can only have one go, then we will have to be realistic, see what happens.

Glad you sound more positive today!!!

Indeed! When I spoke to a nurse at the Agora, she said the waiting lists were from around 2 months to a year, dependent on how fussy you are. She said if you just specify, for example, average height, brown hair, brown eyes, it won't be long. But if you want, for example, turned up nose etc....some people are that specific...you may have to wait a bit longer.

How are you all today?

I am on CD12 and got a Peak, a day earlier than normal.

We haven't managed to BD the last couple of days, OH wasn't too well, but will be tonight and for the next few days.

Love to you all. xx

Hi heavenly, hope you managed to catch the egg.

I'm 5 DPO and in my 2ww. We only managed to BD once during my fertile period but all it takes is the one sperm, right? Trying not to SS. The FS called today, wanting DH and I to come in tomorrow about the SA. I'm thinking that if all goes well, I could be in the thick of IVF by May/June. Not sure whether to be excited or freaked out!!

Yep, it only takes the one!!

I am picking up OH's SA tonight from the doctors, will be taking it to the fertility clinic on Monday and also to find out my AMH results.

We are on a similar timescale to you, if it's my own eggs, will be not hanging around, but if it's DE, will have a little time off to catch our breath.

Good luck to you this cycle and keep me posted re the appointment. xx

Hi Heavenly - I had IVF using DE in Jan and as you can see from my ticker I'm 10 weeks pregnant

I have FSH of 23 and AMH around 3, so IVF using my own eggs was out - my consultant said to me 'I wouldn't say it was impossible for you to get pregnant using your own eggs with those levels, but if you did, you'd be the second woman in the country to do so'
That made my mind up for me!

Congratulations Urchin. If the IVF with my own eggs is unsuccessful, I will be trying DE.

Heavenly, hope your results are great. Please keep us posted. It would be great if we can cycle the same time.

AFM, We went to the clinic today. They will be collecting DH's sample within a few days of scheduling. The timeline is up to us and we can make an appointment for the collection whenever we're ready. So, with that last piece the puzzle taken care of, we're cleared for IVF. Despite the all clear, we didn't book the IVF orientation because we needed a few days to absorb everything. We've gone from thinking that this whole process will take months to it taking only a few weeks!!

Wow, it's moving quick isn't it!! Think it's a good idea you give yourself a few days to let it all sink in. Keep me posted!!

For anyone reading this thread and in two minds about DE, I have a friend on another forum who is pregnant with DE and this is what she said - she is 47!! Go her!!

It's funny, I really have no qualms now & feel closer to it every day. We call it Jellybean because that's what it looked like at my 7wk scan. My OH was very positive that DE was no issue as it would absorb my energy and even be like me, as well as all the obvious about me nourishing it, giving birth etc. He even knew it would happen first time, he's quite spiritual too so I think he had insider information I'm not surprised, given how we ended up together - but that's another story !!

I think that's lovely and it's exactly how I feel, (obviously if we get that lucky and it works), it will be genetically linked to my OH, which is wonderful, and I will be nourishing bean, carrying bean and giving birth to bean. Compared to a future without a child in it, I think it's pretty amazing we will get this chance.
