UK IUI cancelled cycle question

I'm just about to embark on iui for the first time and l just wanted some advice.

I think clomid over stimulated my ovaries so l think l'm destined for a cancelled iui as they are so strict with follies over here. Anyway l just wondered what happens if they cancel it? Do they tell me to not trigger and not BD and just wait for AF? Will l ovulate naturally as l always ovulate anyway (l'm unexplained) or could l trigger and get away without them knowing? Just thinking in advance as l'd hate to waste an nhs cycle as when they funding runs out we'll be out of chances. xxx

Yikes. I'm not sure I can be of much help, since I'm in the U.S. and don't know much about how things are done in the U.K., but if you're overstimulated, meaning you have too many mature follicles (my RE won't do IUI if there's more than 3), and you choose to BD anyway, you're risking a multiple, high-risk pregnancy. I wouldn't do it. Do you know how many follicles you have?

I haven't started my iui cycle yet but l've been on clomid CD2-6 to release more eggs per month so l can't see the difference. To be honest l have alot of pain on one side from clomid and they have never scanned me yet so l'm not even sure what they'll find when l start iui. I just get fobbed off. I just wondered what happened and what our options would be. Thanks so much for replying. xxx

Hi.

My thoughts are to cross that bridge when and if you get there.

I took clomid last week for the first time for 5 days. On Sunday night I was feeling cramping etc on my left side. On Monday I went for my scan and had 3 follicles on the left. One at a decent size and two smaller ones.

The way I felt on Sun-Tues I thought that figure would be a lot higher.

I went in today for another scan and only that larger follicle has continued to grow. I now have one on the right that hasn't grown and the other two on the left haven't increased in size.

I'm guessing if you had 3 or more follicles that looked ready to release eggs they wouldn't go ahead with IUI. They may also tell you to avoid because of the risk of multiples.

Yeah we will obviously find out when we get there but l like to be prepared and find out what happens when you get told its cancelled? I know they won't go ahead if its more than 3 follies as l'm in the uk.

Good luck with the clomid. Sadly they rarely monitor with clomid over here and use it as a fobbing off tactic with people like me. xxx

This was discussed during my first IUI cycle, because I had 3 mature follicles and they were on the verge of calling it off. The impression I got was that I would stop taking all the drugs and stopping the cetrotide would allow you to ovulate sometime after. Obviously, the strongly recommend you abstain from sex because of the risk of multiples.

Don't worry about it though. Unlike the Clomid you will have scans along the way and they can alter the dosage if you are stimming too much.
