IVF vs. IUI - what should we go for?

Hi, wonder if anyone can help? Am a little new to all this.

we have our first appointment at private IVF clinic this weekend (getting nowhere with the NHS) and not sure what they will recommend?

i have had tests and seem to be ov'ing normally, and DH SA was normal count, with slightly low motility. do you think they will recommend IUI, or will we go straight to IVF? I also have a short lueteal phase (9-10 days) so not sure if that makes a difference in the treatment they recommend? Clearly there seems to be a big difference in price!

do they ususally suggest IUI first, and if that fails then IVF?

Any advice would be great, so i know what questions to ask at the hospital. Really excited to be finally getting things moving....our appointment with the NHS has so far been delayed 3 times....

I would SOOO go for IUI, its WAY cheaper for one. And since there is nothing terribly wrong with you or your DH, I think it will work. I had low progesterone, PCOS, Leep twice that removed 1/2 my cervix and took the CM glands with it. so very little CM... took Clomid 150mg and trigger shot on 2nd IUI and I just found out I'm preggers!! (oh and DH SA was good)

thanks both for your opinions! i guess i will have to take advice from the consultant as well - am keen not to spend money when i dont need to, which would push us down IUI route, although if it is a wastre rof money and we have to have IVF anyway...oh, its very confusing! wish a had a crystal ball..

congrats both of your BFP's! you are my inspiration that it can work.

Iui success rates are very low and after 3 failed ones I felt like I'd totally wasted my time. However in in the tww following my first ivf treatment and it was tough. If I hadn't had the experience of the drugs and scans from my iui's I think I would have been totally overwhelmed. Plus u will get a gauge of how your body will respond to fertility drugs and how they will make u feel which is very valuable. My advice is to do one Iui andthen make the move to ivf if it doesn't work. But I bet clinic recommend ivf. Good luck.

Trying 2 Cope - thanks for your advice, that is really useful. guess i know iso little about the drugs and the whole process that i havent even considered how it will make me feel - just so desperate to get started i guess i should take some time to consider properly what this will do to me. Good advice, thanks.
And i have my fingers and toes crossed for you in this round of IVF!!
