It's normal. Just gently wash the area after the cord falls off. It will probably bleed for up to a week or so, and the gunk will continue to come out, but that's normal. As long as it's not green or stinky!

Please get this checked. Mine was like that to and it was an infection from the cord being left too long. Give it a major scrubbing no going easy. We ended up going hosp and they got it off with alcohol and gave her antibiotics.

I'm not saying this to scare u, it really could be nothing but I know I was so glad I got it looked at. Even get the nurse to blink at it. That's what I did and she them got the dr for me

I'll attach a picture at the bottom to show you what it looked like after LO's cord fell off. It had yellow-ish sticky stuff, but wasn't red or hot to the touch. Typically with an infection it will be red/hot. I was worried too, but apparently it's very normal.

I cleaned it with gentle soap and water, and occasionally with alcohol swabs. Pediatrician told me to clean with every diaper change, I didn't go overboard because I changed his diaper 15+ times a day at that point but I did use wet cotton balls to wipe it off.

I kept my sons cord nice and clean with tepid water, i remember his belly button had bits in it for a we while, i just let them come off on their own and kept his belly button clean. I have heard of using alcohol wipes but i never did this. Don't be tempted to pick any bits our of his belly button - sure way to get infected.

When i was in hospital after having little one the the woman who was in the bed next to me twisted her babies cord off! She was a junkie and her poor baby was born addicted I couldnt wait to get away from her!!

Oh my gosh! That's awful. I'm surprised they didn't take her baby away from her. Here if there's any suspicion they would have tested the baby for drugs, and had he/she tested positive the baby would have been taken by a social worker right away.

We had the same thing. Lo's pediatrician said it was normal, and he told us to get a cotton ball soaked in alcohol and squeeze it over the area to help dry it out. He said to do this about 6 times a day, and after a few days his belly button looked normal.

My LO had alot of gunk in her belly button when she was younger, it smelled horrid and used to get red, the pediatrician however didn't seem concerned all all, she just got it out with alcohol and then told me to put hydrocortison on it
