Contraceptive Implant- Anyone else got or had one?

well further to my reply on another thread.. I have been put on the mini pill for a month until my doc comes back from some confrence in south africa!
Then- on 22nd October, hes placing the implanon implant in my arm!

A few things I wanna know, firstly is it painful?
My sister says yeah!

And is it effective immediately?

I HATE TAKING THE PILL.. I always forget

By the way.. thats not the way Mylo was concieved. 5 years ago I was told I couldnt have kids due to being diagnosed with very severe PCOS.. and for 4 and a half years we didnt use any contraception as we didnt see the point.

Now clearly I can.. and even though hes my little miracle boy.. I dont fancy another Mylo just yet . lol

Hey hun i had the implanon for 10months last year, With regards to having it put in the only bit that hurt was the local which they put in first, after your arm feels numb and you have to wear a tight bandage for 24hrs to stop it moving. It didn't suit me but its different for everyone

My sister says yeah! I dont know how they insert it over there in the UK, but here in Australia, they put a local anesethtetic (sp?) in to numb the area before inderting the impanon. you will get a sore bruise for about a week and a little pin head scar, thats it.

And is it effective immediately? Yes it is, but my doctor told me to use condoms for the first week just as a precaution
I had the implanon put in for a month only. I had to have it removed as my hormones went through the roof and I was one cranky cow. after about a week of it out, I even noticed the change in myself, I felt alot more calmer. It is different for everyone, but just keep in touch with your doctor and go back of you start deeling like a nutty women. (no offence)

Hope this helps!!

Hi Tsia

I had it, then had it taken out about 9 months in

Putting it in was fine, but mine tended to move about. It also bent in the middle and then became very itchy. I was very aware of mine and didn't like it.

Also my periods were very irregular during and after the impant. At one point I was bleeding lightly all the time.

I wouldn't do it again, although it may suit you. I'm sticking to the mini pill this time!

Hope you and Mylo are well xx

I had mine put in without anaesthetic, it hurt a fair bit.

I got really depressed on it but had no bad physical symptoms. Because of this I had it taken out after 6 months, also with no anaesthetic. That hurt A LOT. They were digging around for ages in my arm, I left the doctors and passed out in the car park.

I now have two decent scars, one from going in, one from coming out.

I hope it works for you.

I am now on the mini pill and use condoms too. Don't care about the faff!
