has anyone had success with cup drinking for a 6 month old?

My LO has never taken a bottle (not for want of trying!) and now we've moved onto trying a sippy cup at meal times in the hope that she might get used to that. But to be honest, after a month and a half of putting it in her mouth during meal times and giving it to her to play with, she still doesn't take anything from it. However, when I take the lid off shes suddenly interested. Its a very wet process doing it this way. Does / did anyone else do cup drinking with their baby at this age? When did your baby get the hang of it so that they actually got some fluid this way?

what kind have you been trying?
Izzy could never use a valved non drip one, she just couldnt suck it hard enough. She loves the tomee tippee cups that are free flow, and also she now has an explora one, which although it is non spill - it is very easy to drink from.

She learnt to hold it and drink from it at about 6 months, and although I know she can do it...she is too playful and usually throws it on the floor, so I tend to hold it on the bottom and she holds the sides!

Chloe has the tommee tippee free flow one too. she may get 1 or 2 ml from it, basically whatever i can drip into her mouth, but she doesn't suck on it. i think shes got it in her head that drink only comes from boobies! anything else is just playing!

My LO is the same as the OP -- can't seem to work out how to get a sippy cup to work (of any kind, valve or no), but LOVES to drink from them with the lid off.

You are right... it is very wet and very slow learning. I have to help him a lot. But he does it soooooooo well and prefers it this way, so I'm good with that.

I'm going to be ordering a doidy cup soon and see if he has better luck learning with that.

harrison has never had a bottle and now he is 6 month i wont be giving him one, i have given him a sippy cup with boiled water in it and he loves it, i have not tried the valve ones yet just a simple flip up one from asda which was 99p, started off tipping it in his mouth then he started stucking a little bit, once he has the hang of the sucking prop and can hold a cup i will give him a non spill one
