I think its wrong.
I agree it should be offered, encouraged even. But paid to do it?

Why not pay them to go to rehab? Or pay them to have contraception?
But no, i saw the segment and the only paying thats being done is for sterilisation.
Ridiculous in my mind.

Rehab doesn't work. Sure it works for some, but it's only a small percentage.

Plus, the drugs they use in rehab (for example methadone) are just as harmful to the baby as heroin.

Being completely honest, I'd sterilise them all after their first crime and risk penalising the few who may actually get off the drugs and make a life form themselves if it means saving the thousands more who will sentence a child to a life of abuse, neglect and health problems.

If you have ever seen a tiny baby fighting an addiction its mother forced upon it, I don't think you could say that these projects are a bad idea.

i agree that the implant is a better alternative but i do not agree that people have a right to have a child. a child is a privelege not a right.

sorry but where heroin is involved children should NEVER be involved

just one example would be poor wee brandon muir, who wasnt even 2 when he died at the hands of his 'mothers' drug addict boyfreind while she was out selling herself for more drugs

while nobody actively chooses to be an addict, once the heroin has got people thats it, you very RARELY get them back, oh it would be great to live in the rosy world where rehab works etc etc, but sadly in the majority of cases it doesnt - the drug is too powerful. and tbh i would question the judgement of anyone who thinks it is acceptable to allow a baby/child into the care of someone who thought, at any point in time, that it was ok to put that shit in their veins

OMG it makes my blood boil -

i think we should be a lot more active in helping these moronic fuckwits preventing pregnancy, just now a social worker i know is working with a family who have just had a baby, she is assessing their ability, and a few weeks in already knows they will not be able to keep this lo (who was taken into care at birth) and it is their FOURTH child, yes get them on contraception

who cares if the jukies shoot it up, maybe a few will od, they make me sick to the stomach walking about with the skanky faces looking all vacant and expecting something for nothing from EVERYONE

They are not only paid to be sterilised. They are offered long term contraception if they have not had any pregnancies in the past. Sterilisation is ONLY offered where there have been multiple pregnancies before, again be them miscarriages, still births or cases where the children have been born yet ended up in care..

Rehab does not prevent pregnancy..

Hear hear!!!

I hate all this 'having a child is their right'. It's bullsh*t. How can it be their right to force an addiction upon a child? To make that child suffer pain and discomfort as soon as it's born? To force the child to have long term health problems? How can anyone put one persons 'rights' above the rights of another? Or does it not count if that other can't speak up for themselves?
