hi all! since i started this thread i thought i would give a little update. dani is doing quite well with poop. nearly every day she poops on the potty, sometimes it is actually me holding her on the big toilet as we are at my parents house or somewhere other than home. she doesnt seem to mind it at all. i think something that i should have metioned here is that dani is a BLW er. she eats what we eat and so i think her poops might be more solid than that of babies who eat more pureeed food? not too sure though. this seems to me to be easier as she really can feel when poop is coming. as well, we use cloth diapers which i may have mentioned already but as a PP said, they are definately able to feel the wetness/poop more quickly. To my amazement, she has also peed a few times on teh potty/toilet now too! i have not really tried the timing thing that my friend did as i am still not wanting to pressure my childcare provider too much and plan to fully train on my holdiays for christmas as i am a teacher and i get two weeks off. (but as always no pressure) what my LO has done is make her face and grunt like she does when she needs to poo and then i put ehr on the toilet and she pees and doesnt seem to have to poo so i can only assume that that is what she wanted....its really neat!

i wanted to also mention that when i spoke of three year olds in diapers i was mostly referring to those parents who seem to not want to take the time to potty train which i ahve seen in a few aquaintances of mine. as a PP stated that they had seen a mother tell a child to use their diaper instead of taking them to teh bathroom? that is cruel! put yourself in that child's position! it is such an individual thing and i truely am sorry if i offended anyone. what i meant to say was that this is not a thread for debating the issue, rather to discuss my method and see if there was any support out there! that is how things like BLW and BF toddlers, and so many other things that werent the norm began to gain support and those who would like to do those things are able to do so without scrutiny. i know that no mommies on this site would be ignorant of their LO's needs, or lazy with their LO's as we all care very much

another update is that my childcare provider agrees that my LO exhibits a lot of the signs of readiness such as dry diapers when she wakes up, the ability to stand ad walk along furniture, and language development. (she has a few words so she potentiall knows what poo and pee mean and ina few weeks may be able to use them herself?) i feel that what i am doing is giving my child an opportunity and if she does not take it, so be it. we will work with whatever she seems ready for .

another side note (and sorry to be so long-winded as always) today my LO hadnt pooped all day and i put her to bed groggy but not asleep....she then stood up in her crib and grunted and i raced up the stairs once i hard her over the monitor. i got there are she was standing up looking at me like hurry up LOL i took her out and undressed her and then she started to cry and it turned out that i was not quick enough and she had pooped in her diaper. i think it was a very different sensation for her as the diaper provided a blockage that she is not accustomed to (we have been pooping on teh potty most of the time since she has been on solids and had solid poops). i think she prefers the potty TBH, but it is all a work in progress. i am always sure not to over-praise or to shame in any way. hope this provides a bit of insight into my "crazy" ways hehehehe

like i said, i was fully trained by a year (day and night) and my mom started around 10.5 months., which means that this is by no means a new way to do things at all, especially for a lot of continental europeans and not to mention asian cultures as well.

We'll be starting early with my DD - she's continually trying to pull her nappy off as soon as she's done a pee, and when she does a poop, she's started to try and drag the wipes etc over!! She hasn't quite worked out that we have to wait a few mins for her to finish!

I was potty trained from birth, my Dad knew when I was about to go (have no idea how!) and held me over the potty. I have no loo hang-ups, and wasn't remotely bothered about toilets etc growing up!

Well.....I know this is going to be a blast from the past for everyone, but I've done a big of a search on google and this thread came up so I was wondering how it went for everyone?

Myles has just gone 10 months and I'm thinking about potty training but have no idea where to start. I know you put him on it every time they wake up, but how often do you do it inbetween? Any potty training for idiots guide from those who've been there would be much appreciated x

From what I've gathered so far, I put him on the toilet/potty when he wakes up and "psss" at him? I think at this age it's all about repetition. So always saying "need to go peepee?" or something beforehand. I'm totally confused but determined to start. I've got a grasp of what to do when they're getting into it - the noises to make, looking for signs etc. but not how to actually start the whole thing off.

There's a current thread in the Natural Parenting forum called "Elimination Communication Support Thread" (or something close to that.) There is probably more recent info in there.
