Any other baby gets red blotchy rashy skin from formula?

I posted this in the formula section a while back and got one reply. Hoping might have better luck in here.

The issue has advance some as she gets red blotchy skin, sometimes a pretty bad rash, around her mouth, chin and neck from EVERY brand of formula (except Cow & Gate which I haven't tried) I have given her. It flares up where ever the formula has dribbled/come into contact with her skin and wiped clean with a dry or wet cloth. The blotches and rash clear up after an hour or so. She doesn't seem to have any other side effects from taking formula (i.e., upset tummy, irritable, and her mouth is clear).

Has anyone else ever had this? If so what did you do? Not sure what my options will be after trying Cow & Gate and getting the same result. I'm combination feeding, have done since weaning LO @ 6 months. Any help, experience, feed back will be greatly welcomed. Many thanks

I haven't had this, but it sounds like she's edfinitely allergic. Have you spoken to your HV about it? Perhaps she is lactose intolerant? I'm guessing though, but just thinking that all formula has lactose in common. Otherwise do you think she's allergic to the brand of wet wipe? Try wiping with a dry cloth and see if you still have the rash.

For some reason last week LO started getting a red patch appear on the side of his head and around his left eye but only appears when feeding.
It goes about half an hour after feeding and isnt spotty or anything just looks like a red mark, its only a recent thing and doesnt seem to bother him apart from his eye looks a bit watery when it comes up so I have no idea what to make of it.
I was just gonna leave it another few days and if it keeps happening take him to see his dr but like I said it doesnt seem to bother him just me

Glad you posted this..

My little girl (when she was 6 weeks old) developed a bad rash on her cheeks, and neck, We took her to the doctors and he said it was a milk rash or a sweat rash and said it would eventually clear on its own.

A few days later it got worst... it became more red and blotchy, so I took her back to another doctor, who said it could be a number of things.. heat rash, eczema, baby acne, or an allergy to her formula. She prescribed a hydrocortosone cream and said if it didnt improve, then switch formula. The cream worked great at first, It dissapeared but now it comes back every now and again. So we switched from SMA to cow and gate (as she advised)- now my little girls poo's are runny/explosive on the Cow and Gate. The rash still comes and goes, so we know its not the SMA, but we are worried about changing back to SMA again (which gave her more solid poo's) as ive heard mixed advice about changing formulas.

So basically, the rash was there on SMA, still comes and goes on Cow and Gate, but now we have to deal with exposive poo's too!!

I asked my HV and she was useless.. just said... "its up to you if you change back, but we dont recommend you change formula too often". So I need to ask the doctor whether she thinks its a lactose intolerance (not an intolerance to any specific formula) and if I shoudl switch to a lactose free milk or if its actually a non-milk related rash. . im worried about swapping and changing formulas, and I just dont know what to do for the best, as Im not even sure if it is formula-related

Sorry I couldnt help... just wanted to share my experience.

edited to add: ive eliminated any other things that can cause rashes.. ie her getting too hot, still use non-bio, dont use wipes or baby products on her face etc

Thanks ladies for your helpful replies. I have just put a phone call in to my hubby asking him to pick up a tin of SMA lactose free formula during his lunch break. We'll give that a go and report back. Worried though about the possibility of constipation (which happens apparently from LF milk)? Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see huh? Fingers crossed x

Is there a possibility it could be the teat on the bottle and not the formula at all? I only ask as a friend of mine had a similar problem and thought it was the milk but it turned out to be the rubber teat.. she changed to a different type (latex free i think) and it stopped.

Thanks Blaumba. No, its definitely not the teat as I have given her formula out of a cup with the same result. Its also not what I use to wipe her with because I have used a dry cloth, a wet one, wet wipes etc all with the same result. Can't think what else it might be if its not the formula. I'm hoping our trial of a lactose free formula will work, otherwise its straight to the doctors. Wonder why it happens only when it comes into contact with her skin (and not, for instance, a result of digestion)?
