Is the really a thing called a routine

nicole is all over the place. she has her 1st bottle around 7-8am, small nap, bottle, small nap, bottle, it goes like this till the evening and then has a bottle around 9.30pm and sleeps till 3am and then stirs, grunts till 7am. we tried keeping her up later at nite to see if she would sleep more at nite but this hasnt worked.

she feeds every 2 hrs and takes around 6oz. shes usually in good form till the evening, sometimes she cries coz shes tired but fights the sleep till the bitter end. she did get her 1st jabs on mon and since then it seems to be getting more all over the place.

She's a healtyh eater, that's good! Something I'm finding more and more recently is that baby's just like to throw things up in the air every now and again but normality (whatever 'normality' for you is!) will resume after a few days or so.

FWIW, it sounds like she has her own version of a routine and I'm sure she will start sleeping for longer and longer, just persevere. I think we'll wait until 3 months to start thinking about ways to help our little one get a more solid night of sleep. I think until then, we can expect the baby to lead the way 100% and just deal with whatever she chucks at us!

are you FF? If so sounds like you might need to use hungry baby formula! that way she might stay fuller for longer and sleep a but better? if you are BF maybe forumla for bed time?

We have a really rough routine and i wish i could pin it down.

zakk has breakfast, mid morning, lunch, mid afternoon, tea time, bed time and one night feed. no set times, just as the day unfolds.I think in a way this is good as it means he is flexible but i would like a little more of a clue as to what is going on. he can be quite random especially in the afternoon.

In my experience not when they are 2 months old unfortunately. I would say that at about 3-4 months I became much more aware of what needed to happen and when and Isabel was much more predictable but at 2 months there are so many things that throw them off. Sleep regressions, vaccinations, trapped wind, growth spurts, etc. I found I was still going with the flow at that point. It was good days and bad days.

To be honest it seems as if you are doing quite well - particularly at night as my little one was up much more than this at that point! You will get there with her being more predictable. At around 10 weeks we did start an evening routine though and putting her to bed in her moses basket upstairs on her own. Not sure if this is what you mean by routine tho.

Hope that helps a bit!

thanks ladies. with my son he slept all the time, he was just lazy lol. didnt go out for the first few months all he wanted to do was feed, change and sleep in his cot. his routine was brill but annoying as he wouldnt sleep in his buggy just his cot, 9am -12.30, 2pm to 5, 6pm till 8am. i used to try to drag him out but all hell would break loose lol.

i think she just knows what she wants and we have to work around her. like now she had her bottle in her rocker chair, no way would she take it in my arms. i can take her up and wind her but she will cry to go back down and finish the bottle. its probably not the most ideal way but she likes it. only 2 of her feeds are done this way, she will ALLOW all other feeds to be given in my arms.

we don't really have a routine either, i'm just going with the flow. bella'll go anywhere between 2 1/2 - 4 1/2 hours between bottles in the day, & will usually wake once or twice in the night. getting up is anywhere between 6am - 9am & she goes to bed between 8.30pm - 9.30pm. in the day, she'll usually have a bottle, nappy change, play & sometimes nap, then do the same again.
xx

i think you are right ladies. zakk is quite random and can wake in the night for a week at 3am then suddenly change tack and its all over the place.

when you accept you have to go with the flow (im a complete control freak you see) life gets a bit easier.

Funny you should say that about your son.
We have put both into routines but our second she LOVES being in a routine so much.
She always always has a 3-4 hour sleep from between 10/11am every day.
If I try and take her food shopping after the school run instead of home, play, bath, feed, play, sleep she creates merry hell
If we are out and she gets tired she wont sleep in my arms, in the buggy unless you walk for about an hour or the car. She wants her bed for every sleep.
Strange...

im glad to read this oddsocks as i was starting to get stressy again yesterday about not having a routine. i had to have a chat with myself!

i spoke to a girl a while ago who had a 4 week old who had 5oz bottles, 5 hours apart and slept through the night. i was floored. felt like a failure!

then i remembered that zakk was sweet as until 4 weeks when he suddenly changed his mind and decided he would not nap at all and would not be put down without massive meltdowns!

i need some sort of hypnotherapy to make me chill out of worrying about routines.

"release the routine....."

im a control freak too lol. and i was majorly spoiled by my son, i never watched so much tv when he was small. had nothing else to do lol. i suppose she has HER own routing atm it just doesnt fit in with mine so i gotta change mine. my twin nieces were the same, 1 would just sleep and eat, could bring her anywhere and she was happy, u could change her routine and she wouldnt care once u gave her food but the other one, omg she was just like nicole, god help u if u changed her routing even a tiny bit, satan himself would run a mile. they still are like this even at 19
