brown sugar and water, how often?

How often is it ok to give your baby brown sugar and water to help with constipation? i'm only meaning 1/4 of a tsp with 40-60 ml boiled water. I only gave it to him 2 days ago and today he cried cause his poo hurt to come out, i feel so terrible for him.

I would think if he's needing help there might be another issue going on. My oldest son was on formula and was getting very constipated, we realized it was his formula and had to switch him to lactose free and he was fine after that. I personally would try just a bit of water without the brown sugar, it would probably help too..but I would be really careful with that even at his age

I have him on a thickened formula for reflux, i have heard it is common for babies on this type of formula but don't really want to change it as it is working really well for his reflux, he is like a new baby and doesn't cry all the time like he used to

I'd call the Plunket line and see if they have suggestions. They told me not to use sugar/water, but use diluted fruit juice instead (apple, orange or prune, 5ml+50ml water up to 2x per day). However, I think that recommendation is for babies over 2 months. And mine hates fruit juice...

If Haley gets that bad (she FF and she's on the lactose free which constipates) but I'll mix 1 oz of prune juice in with her formula, and she'll fill her diaper within a couple hours. It works!

I was also going to suggest adding little juice to the formula. Giving babies with reflux water might affect their reflux hun as it's runny xx
