How much sleep does a 10 month old need?

My 10 month old sleeps around 9 to 9 1/2 hours straight at night. He takes a 30 min to 1 hour nap in the morning, and 1 to 1 1/2 hour nap in the afternoon. I worry that he isn't getting enough sleep. He wakes us very easily too, if the neighbors beep their horn or my other kids get up for school in the morning, he gets up too and can't get back to sleep. When we are out, he doesn't nap at all or he would take a 15 to 20 minute nap in the car. Does anyone know if 11- 12 hours of sleep is enough for a 10 month old?

I am sure it is recommended around 11/12 hrs at night and about 3hrs worth naps - so total of about 14hrs a day

They are all different Hon ... At 10 months my eldest wouldn't take naps at all and only slept about 9 hours a night (and woke up at least twice a night within those 9 hours ) - she's 21 now and still a fidget ass night owl who's on the go all of the time

Kaylum on the other hand will nap for 2 to 3 hours during the day and easily sleeps at least 13 to 14 hours a night without waking at all - just like his Mum, my middle one, who could sleep for Britain even now.

I wouldn't worry tbh - even as adults we all need differing amounts of sleep

Thanks Ellie.

Tattiesmum: I have a 10 year old who only sleeps 8 to 8 1/2 hours at night and refuses to nap. He wakes up to get ready for school at 4:45am

My 6 year old, gets 9 to 9 1/2 hours sleep and wakes up at 5:45am for school.

Thanks to both my kids, they create a lot of noise getting ready and coming in and out of the room, and my poor LO wakes up too.

There you go ... you obviously have high energy, don't need much sleep children ..... LOL at getting up for school at quarter to five - he obviously loves school hard on you though - I bet lie ins are a long distant memory

Tattie: When you mentioned your daughter is 21 and still sleeps odd hours, I couldn't imagine all my kids still waking up this early everyday when they are teenagers. Oh my! Does this mean I will never get more than 7 hours sleep ever again?!?! My son is like a rooster. No matter what time he sleeps at night even if it's 9 to 930PM, he still wakes up at 4:45am everyday (if we're lucky 5:00am)---- even on weekends!

Don't worry Hon ... they get quieter as they get older so even when they get up early they won't be waking you up! - you will get your lie ins back eventually

Plus the hours they sleep change ... Charlotte quite happily parties until 5am then grabs about 5 hours sleep before starting work at 11am (she's a chef so works odd hours that suit her anyway LOL).

My 10 year old would NEVER get out of bed if he had his choice. Of course, he wouldn't get dressed either! LOL

LO sleeps 9 hours at night and maybe 2 hours during the day, if I am lucky. She is not much of a napper. She is too busy watching everything else going on and is afraid to miss something. She also wakes before 6am even on weekends!

Kacey sleeps 12 -13 hours at night and has 2-3 hr during the day. Short nap in the morning and 2hr in the pm. She has always been a good sleeper and has slept 12 hrs at night bar a handful of times since 6 weeks.
