I got confused between CIO and CC and so I guess my vote doesn't really count now sorry I should have voted never for CIO but I think CC is acceptable from 1yr+, which is what I voted. I'm all confused, sorry, ignore me

When the parent is so exhausted that it becomes unsafe for the parent to be there attempting to stop the crying. When the parent becomes resentful to the point of anger. When the parent can no longer cope. Not everyone has a friend or family member to help. That's how I feel.

I voted - when the mother is desperate. I don't think it should be done unless everything else hasn't worked, and the family is suffering as a result.

The thing I am not sure about CIO is the type of cry they mean. As we all know babies have different cries depending on their needs. Does CIO mean you ignore any cry as long as it takes? I presume it does, so I voted 'never'. I do, however, put LO to bed awake and he either just falls asleep or Grizzles It Out for a few mins particularly if overtired.

I voted never, but I wish I could have put that and when the mother is desperate. I'd rather the baby CIO than something happening because the Mom is so sleep deprived.

Yes I think CIO is a lot different than grizzle it out... it's ignoring the baby's "need" cries (I think grizzling is a bit of a complaint but does not mean "I need you NOW")

CIO means you ignore all and any crying. grizzling/fussing is different from crying.

Oh I read it wrong! I thought it was for CC and put Undecided. We haven't yet but may well do it in the next couple of months as Harry is capable of self settling he just chooses not to most of the time.

Personally, I would say never for CIO but that's more because I'm not at all comfortable with it, heck I've not yet been able to do CC despite DH being keen to try it. I would never judge anyone who does it though.

Out of desperation. And definitely not with a newborn.

Voted for 'when desperate...'

...we tried everything after a year without a whole night's sleep...

...eventually decided we would try CC, but as others have said, the going in made our LO worse, so we tried CIO as a last resort....luckily it worked very quickly (about 10 minutes at most, and just 30 seconds by day 3).
