Are we NEVER supposed to introduce salts or sugars in what baby/child eats?

I posted this in the toddler room but no-one in answering

My son is 11 months old and partially weaned. He is having mashed family foods which is cooked before adding salt, and snacks that are sugar-free. I hear so much about never adding salts or sugars into baby foods so here is my question:

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I am genuinely curious. If we never give our babies/toddlers/children foods which contain salts and sugars, how do they move onto family foods? Our family foods contain salts and sugars.

I think it's fine once there a bit bigger but i think that you just try to avoid adding salt where it maby isnt nessacary
Like to cook veg/pasta that kinda thing or putting salt on chips
i've never been brought up to put salt on chips or anything for that matter and my mind just boggles when my friends add salt to their mcdonalds chips

Haha, about the mcdonalds chips - I think they're already too salty. But yeah, I've always been a rather healthy eater and prefer to use less salt. It just crossed my mind that you HAVE to start using salts sooner or later in baby's food so they can learn to consume REAL food (not mcdonalds).

same i mean there REALLY salty for me as they are!
I never use salt in cooking as i cook for us both and i dont notice any difference tbh, obviously some meals will contain salts from somewhere but just keep a note of how much salt is in.

I think its a case of once they are older 5-6 sort of age there bodies are more capable of processing it, its just while they are babies and toddlers.
Never realy looked into it yet so I wouldnt know what sort of actual ages are ok to start using it in food normaly but at a guess I would say it probably still has to be very moderate up untill at least 9-10 sort of age.

TBH we dont realy bother with the whole no sugar thing (within reason obviously) we dont add sugar to stuff but if its in it already im not one to be "oh good no he cant have it" unless its a massive amount, we brush his teeth so they are fine and he has a very healthy all round diet so its not like im pumping him full of sugary stuff, just that if he has something then fine just means he doesnt have too much with sugar in later.

I am faily strict with the salt though, salt doesnt get added to anything even my own food (I prefere pepper as a seasoning) but again im not going to stop him having it full stop just not have anything that is high in it.

Answered your thread in the toddler section but just wanted to point out that real food doesn't have to have salt in it.

Babies under the age of one are allowed 1 gram of salt a day which really isn't a lot, I'm not sure about sugar though. Can you not just add salt to your meals after you've made them, the same as you do just now? x

I don't worry too much, I mean really... some salt, poop, dog slobber, dirt, etc... which sounds worse? LOL In all seriousness though, I think treats are fine once they are over 12 months, but I don't think it's good to add salt to anything other than in baking etc... where it calls for some. I went years without even owning a salt shaker, or having it in my house. Kayleigh still gets treats though, and I don't think it will hurt. I think when you feel comfortable with your LO having your food or treats then it's okay.
