Tummy time play mats?

How do you do tummy time with your LO?

Did you buy one of them "Tummy time play mats" or did you just use a blanket on the floor or your bed?

I was looking at getting one but thought i'd ask and see how many people actually use them first.

Just a mat on the floor for us! I got a little play mat from asda and it came with a little kidney shaped pillow. I used the pillow a few times for under her chest, but she didn't really need it.

Just her out - see how she gets on. She may not need one!

Sorry to jump on your thread, but can someone explain tummy time for me?
I never knew about this until I came on here, I just thought when they are old enough to roll over they would roll onto their front and go from there

Tummy time is where you get LO use to be on their tummies and to strengthen their necks. To be honest my LO hated it, so we really didn't try and push it

I mostly used mine for a changing mat to be honest, in fact I still do. I got something like a large play-mat when he was crawling and since tummy time is such a short period I wish I had just got it in the first place and saved time and money. (It says for 3 years and over but I have no idea why, I honestly think it is suitable from birth.) You can get it here or from other places so I think you can get it cheaper than this and I would recommend the product.

We haven't bought a mat for doing tummy time - I nearly did though. What we do is just lie her on the floor with a cloth under her head just in case she sicks up to save the carpet!

To begin with she didn't like being on her tummy so we rolled up a blanket and put it under her armpits so she was a little higher, otherwise she just ended up face-planting! But no she fully has strength to lift her head up properly she loves it, just make sure you have things to keep them entertained to hand!

It also gives them time off from being on their backs!

I bought one of those mats when LO wouldn't tollerate tummy time. It did help in that she would stay on it for 2-3 minutes before screaming as opposed to 30 seconds! We must have only used it for a few weeks maximum though as she started to gain better head control so I bought one of those big playmats for her to lie on. Bit of a waste of money for me really, although I think it may have helped her gain confidence on her tummy to maybe not!

I got one of the mats with the little crescent shaped cushion that attaches to go under their chest (tummy time surfboard I think it is called). It really helped and she went from freaking out to actually enjoying tummy time in about 1 week! She then went on to only wanting to hang out on her tummy (without the cushion by this point) and then started crawling at 5 1/2 months. She is now 6 1/2 months and crawls like a mad woman, pulls herself up to standing by herself and just yesterday started standing and only holding onto the support (chair, etc) with one hand. I swear I owe it all to that tummy time mat!

I agree with memphis; my son hated tummy time until I got one of those mats with a little pillow support, he really enjoys it and a week after he started using it even though a few days previously he could barely lift his head when on his front; he learnt how to flip himself onto his back using it and hes done it a couple of times without the pillow as well.
