Anyone have the Maxi Cosi Opal?

I am looking at the next stage car seat for LO as she is getting big for her cabriofix now.

I wanted to buy a rearfacing car seat but they are just wayyyy out of my budget being on my own.

I note this one says it can extend the time you have your baby rear facing....does anyone have one that could verify the age it actually does that for? I get the feeling it isn't much longer than a normal baby car seat and wonder if this is a selling ploy.

I think binxyboo has the Opal. It will rear-face to 13kg.

One thing I'd mention... Just from a quick google, it seems like the Opal is retailing for £175+ pounds, is that right? I appreciate that even an extra £25 can be a lot of money (I'm a student, so believe me that I get this) but there are a couple of really good ERF seats which come in at £200. The Multi-Tech (one of them) also becomes a FF seat and then a first stage booster, so it's a lot of bang for your buck. I'm really hoping that I'm not coming across as pushy or anything, I wouldn't have mentioned it if you hadn't already expressed interest in rear-facing

Whatever seat you get, I hope it works for you And hopefully Binxy and some of the others who have the Opal will be able to add in some advice

I heard my name being mentioned

I have an Opal as I don't have a car that can take an ERF seat. It RF til 29lbs (I can't work in bloody kg's!!)
Depending on your childs centile, it could last quite a while as a RF seat! (Daniel is about 19lbs at 1 year old, and if he continues on his centile line, it could well last him til he is about 2 years!!)
I have some pics of Daniel in the Maxi cosi cabriofix and in the Opal installed in my car.
You can see the extra room at his feet as they no longer kick the seat.
The head rest of the opal will extend up as the child grows, so although it looks like he has the same amount of room as he does in the Maxi Cosi, it will infact 'grow' with him!

Ah thanks ladies.

I 'thought' I saw the Opal for a lot cheaper but I haven't checked before replying to this thread. I only saw a few yesterday which seemed very pricey. £25 isn't a problem....I will have a look at the one you mentioned....I don't have much idea about them so advice is appreciated.x

The Volvo version of ERF seat Britax Multitech is retailing at £200, not quite as cheap but I think this is one of the cheapest ERF options available - I've just started looking into it all myself.

Binxyboo, thanks for posting those photos. I hadn't considered the Opal as an option but could well work for us.
