So we have the M&P primmo viagio carseat/baby carrier at the moment and I'm not sure if it's the carseat or our car (BMW 3 series) or a combination of both, but it's getting so hard to get LO in the car without making her cry. And then she is usually sick, not sure if it's out of protest or the trauma of squeezing her in. Plus the straps keep getting twisted so I loosen them to get her in and then can't tighten them up as the bloody things won't move through the slots as they are twisted!
So we are thinking about getting a 0+1 group car seat (birth-4years) I like the idea that she might be able to rear face for slightly longer in it than the 0group one.
So what 0+1 carseat do you have? How long will it rearface for? Do you like it? How much was it? How are you coping without the baby carrier option? (although I don't use it as a carrier much as the bloody thing is so heavy, even without a 16lb baby in it!!)
I have the Maxi Cosi opal inmy car (a Smart Fortwo) and the Britax First Class Plus in hubbys car (Landrover Discovery)
Both are excellent car seats.
Take your car to Mothercare or Halfords and get them to try them in your car to make sure they fit. The Britax won't fit in my car at all which is why I have the Maxi Cosi.
You won't find a car seat that will rear face any longer than the primo viaggio - they all go up to 13kg (28lb 11oz). We have that one too and I know what you mean about the straps, they are a bit of a pain but I've got the knack of keeping them straight now lol.
We are going to try and use it as long as possible then go onto a group 1,2,3 which can be used from 9-36kg. Fran is over 9kg now but I'm not ready for her to go forward facing yet.
What would happen if you kept them rear facing in a group 0+1 carseat for slightly longer? Is it dangerous? Originally we were just going to go from 0 to a normal group one, but I'm not sure I can put up with this carseat until she hits the age/weight limits so that's why we are thinking about swapping now.
I have this one for Joshua. I just leave it in the car, but it's easy enough to take out when needed. We have a Vauxhall Signum & it fits in fine, it also goes in a Nissan X-Trail & Ford Focus ok as well.
We have a britax first class plus. Its not in the car yet but its not heavy. It rear faces untill 29lb and was £99 on the mothercare website. I dont have a travel system so iv allways takes her out of her infant seat and put her in the carrier or in the pram.
I used the Concord Ultimax combination seat with Tom from 9 to 17 months cos he outgrew his maxi-cosi seat heightwise but only weighed 7kg then. The Britax seat didn't fit well in my car but the Concord worked well. You can get it from Halfords and Mothercare online or Kiddicare.
TBH I wasn't using the car seat on the travel system anymore cos it was so heavy with him in and getting it out of the car was doing my arm in.
