i've always just put a few inches of water in bath and let him lay and splash, you could do this until he can sit unaided!?
stardust599- what an awful accident! I would never leave LO alone for a second, too risky!

I have the Asda one too and Paige loves it. The suckers work really well, sometimes a little too well.
If your Lo is still a little too small maybe you can put a small spare towel or sponge in behind him for that little extra support until he is ready to sit alone?

We just lie lo in shallow water, she loves splashing around and it's much easier to bath her than anything else we've used. To begin with I'd put a folded bath sheet under her but now she just goes on the bottom of the bath 
