OH MAN.. we have had a MAJOR set back..
Suddenly the past week Matty has started to freak out when put on the toilet..
I have no idea why. He was loving it and we didn't have any poopy nappies for a week.. so I thought we were well on track. Now he is arching his back and screaming on the toilet. The second I take him off he is fine.. I don't want to force him, so I take him off right away and then put a nappy on him. Nine times out of ten, he then goes poop in the nappy right away. He almost always does a pee in the toilet when I put him on.
I don't know how to get back on track.
I figure it must having something to do with the stage he is at. He is teething, just cut his first tooth, and suddenly wanting to stand all the time. Plus we have started BLW, so maybe that is the cause? I just hope we get past this and back to pooping on the toilet soon.

I'm so happy! Emma has been resistant since she started walking two months ago. So I got her her own potty. I would sit her on it when I went and talk to her about it but she's allways get off and pee on the floor. And then play with the potty seat.
This morning she peed on the potty! And then I sat her on it again later and said " potty time! Let's go peepee'" and she peed on it gain! Yay!!!!!

Also with poops she's been waking up at some point in the night and pooping instead of waiting until morning now... Not sure what to do about that...

Emma stood next to me and made a grunt, I said, "do we need to go to the potty?" she smiled and walked into the bathroom over to her potty and peed as I took off her diaper. Didn't quite make it in time but you can't say that isn't totally awesome!

Today is a huge day of progress!!! I'm astonished!

That sounds like hell! At 7 months that sometimes happens with new mobility (the standing...very common) and the teething too! And BLW. I think this little guy may need a little "off" time where he doesn't have to think about pottying...and then sure enough within days or (hopefully not longer) a couple weeks he'll be asking for it again. Sometimes when this first potty pause happens it can be super-devastating. You didn't do anything wrong and if you de-focus a little bit off of EC for a few days, I think you'll find that things shift in a good direction!

Also, have you tried standing positions in the bathtub? Or demonstrating squatting outside (without letting him go outside to pee/poo too much)? Or having an older child over to demonstrate and indirectly show how normal this all is? Just some thoughts....Feeling for you.

I'm new to this community and I wanted to share that we were, indeed, out of daytime diapers at 9 months. At 19 months we've been done with everything but him pulling his own pants down. We only have nighttime misses when he's teething. And in the daytime we have them outdoors sometimes when he's too distracted to tell us. Indoors there's sometimes a pre-pee when he's engrossed in play, but never a full-on one. He's consistent and we are so proud of him without hemming about that all day long.

When we stopped diapering at 9 months old we put him in Gerber cotton training pants for about 5 months and then found some awesome tiny cotton underwear in Thailand while visiting family.

I have some scientific reports in EC's favor (re: sphincter control and whatnot) on my site...but from personal experience I can tell you that it worked for us (and for 1,000s of my readers)!

I swear I'm not trying to brag, just to add on to the highlight factor, by saying this: Not having to change but about a dozen poopy diapers over 19 months has been the best part. Not that it was easy the whole time. But all babies are constantly changing and we just stuck with it, focused on our whole child and all his needs, and it always worked out.

Good luck to all of you who decide to try EC out!
