I think its a bit harsh that people are calling you unreasonable. Your a mother and its a mothers job to worry. However, it is true that anyone regardless of gender could be a danger to your child. I personally won't be taking my child to nursery because I don't trust any strangers with my child male or female, but thankfully the abusers are actually a minority and its much more likely that he is a perfectly innocent guy who just loves working with kids.

I don't think it has anything to do with your personal preference! It's shocking to me that people are opposed to men entering fields where women have traditionally been in.

How would you feel if someone told you you couldn't be a doctor because you were a woman? Or a lawyer? Or they were uncomfortable with you being a lawyer?

But these prejudices in the field still exist whether I like them or not. But because you are happy with such setting does that mean we all should be?

I feel that because people perpetuate such stereotypes, nothing will ever change or get better in the teaching field.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. It saddens me that my fellow 'sisters' are not happy about a man taking on a typically female role. I feel really quite strong about it as it puts women back a 100 years. Whether man or woman changing my sons nappy at nursery I really couldnt care less, just as I dont mind male DRs, nurses and midwives.

I can see a heated debate arising

Being a man shouldn't make anyone worry but maybe sadly it does. I wouldn't be bothered personally. Like others have said, there are plenty of male teachers/doctors/nurses, etc. At the end of the day any gender can do wrong to children. It's just sad that people are more hasty to judge men in these type of jobs rather than women.

I can't believe how the media has caused us to think that all men that work with children are pedophiles. I think people need to educate themselves on some of the statistics surrounding child sexual abuse. I'll be back with some.

A lawyer wouldn't come into contact with my child's genitals at all, and I would be with any Dr who did. I think its just in some circumstances some of us would still be happier if we knew it was a lady doing it. To me its like if an old man kissed my daughter on the cheek, doesn't mean he's a peado, but its still something I would have slight anxiety about.

Most men who commit sexual offenses do not know their victim.

False. 90% of child victims know their offender, with almost half of the offenders being a family member. Of sexual assaults against people age 12 and up, approximately 80% of the victims know the offender.
