My daughter has an umbilical hernia and she is 2. It has shrunk but not disappeared. However we're not due to review it with the doc until she's 3 and they're unlikely to operate until school age. It's not really a problem, you just get used to it!
I was told that it was only a problem if it became trapped or strangulated. In this case the skin will darken and in that case you should contact a doc. Hope the granuloma surgery goes well

Thanks for the responses ladies, my LO still has both at 9 weeks, we were waiting until after his shots before going for the granuloma treatment, he had those today so we will make our appt. with the pediatric surgeon in about two weeks. I will see if I can get a belly button pick of mr. crankypants.

My baby had an umbilical hernia until about 12 weeks. : )
One day it was just gone.
It was quite weird; when you pushed on it, it made a squishy noise!

Duejan -Yes that describes it exactly, didn't get photo time with my LO yet because he is so cranky due to the shots.

MonstHer - that is great it just went away, I am hoping his does the same and yup makes the squishy noise when pressed also! LOL

The squishy noise totally freaked me out.
It would also make noises when she was crying or straining, and then it would stick out even more! I thought on more than one occasion of duct taping it down.
Weird and scary. Hopefully your baby's goes away soon.
