I think it's wonderful, Jessica Don't be ashamed

I'd do it. In fact, I'm on a Facebook page where women offer to pump and donate milk for women that need it

I don't know how DH would feel about it though. He's uncomfortable enough with me BFing past one.

Some people forget that wet nurses were common not even 100 years ago among upper classes and even some lower classes. In fact, I'm sure that they are common in African and other tribal countries (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I exclusively express for my LO because of loads of problems due to her allergies to cows milk causing severe reflux and pain.

So I don't think my LO would breastfeed from someone else anyway.

I would be more than happy to donate bm and in theory would breastfeed another child but realistically I think I would shed a few tears because my breast feeding journey with LO was so difficult.

I have an oversupply though (due to all the expressing) so would be delighted to donate but havent found anywhere to donate to.

I actually think if more women were prepared to have their newborns feed off another, more experienced mama, a lot of the problems with latch would be solved, you would really be able to see why the baby was struggling etc and offer really good support

It's a shame that's not the case really x

I've read that in certain cultures newborns are given to more experienced women to learn to feed, but I don't get how that works because surely they'd miss out on colostrum and there would be a problem with the mother's supply from not feeding? I agree though it'd make things much easier.

I would most definitely use donor milk as long as it was fully screened and perfectly safe. BUT there is no way i would ever use a wet nurse, i want to be the one feeding my baby by either bf'ing or ff'ing i could not imagine watching another woman breast feed my baby, Feeding a newborn baby is such a private and intimate act and i would never feel comfortable with that - i think that watching a wet nurse feed my baby would create serious bonding issues x

I have a friend from Kenya who was breasted by the next door
Neighbour when his mum was unble to feed him. Apparently he was then banned from marrying the neighbours girls because being fed from the same boob made them sisters in his culture.

I don't know if I could do it (well, unless there wasnt another option, I certainly wouldn't watch a baby to hungry) but I think it's a lovely thing if you can do it.

Wet nursing is great my MIL nursed many babies whose mothers had inadequate milk or no milk. For me personally I would let me LO have breast milk from others if I couldn't. Breastfeeding for us is important not only from health perspective but also from a religious one.
