Noooo don't give your baby pea size bits of food like some one suggested, they are more likely to choke on them than they are a chunk of toast.

Ignore your doctor, sounds like they are from the dark ages!

Was just going to say exactly this.

The posts on the previous page from 'medic' advocated pea sized bits of food, but that's not right. Food should be about the size of your finger initially in length, so it's easy for them to handle, but the idea of BLW isn't to cut food into tiny bits, which probably means they wouldn't eat until their pincer grip develops, but instead to let LO see food as an adult would eat it.

And the comment about a cheerio blocking the airway is just weird. Grapes, olives and cherry tomatoes are choking hazards, and should always be cut in half. But a cheerio?

Your paed is an idiot!

I'm a big believer in waiting til as close to 6 months as possible to blw but ultimately you go with lo. After all it is baby led weaning!

9 months is rediculous. My dd was on 3 meals a day by then.

Babies do have a gag reflex at 6 months and giving them purée only hinders their ability to tackle lumps as they learn to suck purée from a spoon.

I'm not an expert on blw but even I know your paed is out dated in his knowledge and narrow minded in his attitude!

Thank goodness someone said it! I was thinking the same exact thing about the medic's answers.
