Climbing into the crib with LO

A couple of friends have suggested this to me when I've talked about trying to get her to sleep in her crib. It seems like a lot of weight to put in one though... Has anyone else done this? I'd never even heard of it but after a second person mentioned it to me I thought I'd ask on here! Have any of you climbed into a crib with your LO to help get them to sleep? Is it safe?

Is a crib the equivalent of a cot in the UK? If so then I doubt it'd take the weight, or there'd be the room personally!

I'd think you'd damage the crib mattress... I've seen photos of people in cribs, but I wouldn't do it personally.

Yes sorry, a crib is a cot . I agree it does seem like a tight squeeze, but doable if it would hold...

Ours is fully wood, so if I wanted too I could; but I'm a bit heavy too. We just have the cot beside the bed.

Id say it would hold, but I cant imagine it would be very comfy! Why not just try laying baby in the cot and holding their hand? (this is what I did when I wanted Paige to fall asleep without being held) and it worked.

It would be quite funny to see someone in the crib with their baby though... lol!

It probably would hold but might be hard to break the routine of lo getting to sleep without u!

My oh often gets into dds cotbed and happens to fall asleep when he takes her up an I'm cleaning! He's 6ft 2 so a funny sight!

Joshua cotbed holds my weight (around 12stone) as well as his. I haven't slept in there, but I have laid down next to him a few times.

I think it'd potentially damage the mattress - the fsids guidelines against second hand mattresses are because of indentations in the mattress more than hygiene.

Also, given how awkward climbing in would be, once baby is asleep how would you manage to climb out without waking baby again anyway? Given it'd probably be legs and arms all over the place lol! You couldn't sleep in there yourself - if you wanted to do that you'd be better off researching co-sleeping (in a normal bed!)

Isobel used to need to be cuddled to sleep but when we moved to self settling I used to lean over her at first and put my hands on her till she fell asleep.
