Tummy bug - milk?

Hi ladies,

Just looking for a little advice really, my DD developed a sickness/diaorrhea bug on weds afternoon and has been sick/runny bum/temperature ever since. It seems to be settling a bit today, she's so tired tho bless her. The problem is she won't take any water/diaralyte etc just wants milk. She has had about 36 hours off milk so I gave her 2 ounces about 1.5 hours ago and it's stayed down so far. When she wakes up shall I try a couple more ounces? Has anyone found milk bring the sickness back when their baby has a bug or have I left it long enough now? She won't even take it mixed with water.

Thanks for help xx

I normally think that once they've kept it down the worst should be past. I've been there my LO refused Diaralyte and water until she had a beaker, actually she is ill atm and this is the first time she's not refused it so it is difficult. Keep trying with that, but if she's kept the 2 ounces down I'd offer that again every couple of hours, if she's ill again stop. I know it's really scary not giving milk (or food for my LO who is 1) but it's the only thing to do and it's what will get rid of their poorliness quickest, their bodies can cope without it while they get better.
Hugs for you it's horrible and scary when LO is poorlysick

Thank you for your help, she had another bout of diarrhoea and I just bathed her but she refused diralyte again I got about 30 mil into her and again she was screaming for milk so I just gave her 3 ounces. Will see if it stays down but am guessing even if it comes out the other end it's still not hydrating them? And the bug is still there? Does some fluid stay in even if they lose some?? Xx

When my LO had gastro we were advised to give her Lactose free milk for a week. It did wonders and i have done that whenever she had a bad tummy upset.

Try giving the diarolyte by spoon, cup or syringe. Every little bit helps.

Thanks for the recommendation for the syringe, we tried that and she had no choice but to have some. We ended up taking her to a&e this afternoon to be checked out, they were happy that she was hydrated enough although she threw up all over the docs bed and had runny nappies again. We are home now, lots of diralyte and Ribena to mix it with, poor bubba

My lo recently came out if hospital for this as he was so poorly, best thing is lactose free formula for a while, it is more likely to stay down! As soon as my lo starting having this he was loads better! X

Hi there, thanks for the advice re lactose free formula, which dud you use and where from? I tried milk again today and she's been sick again I think I'll try some lactose free.

Also were your lo's weaned when they has bugs, did you carry on with food? My baby is just over 5 months and we'd only just started weaning so just on pureed right now. She has taken little bits and pieces here and there.
