I'm so sorry - it's awful.

My LO had 'colic' (who knows if that's what it was) from around 5 weeks to around 12 weeks and then he just seemed to grow out of it (whatever 'it' was).

I tried colief and it seemed to help a bit although it can be a bit of a faff with the breastfeeding (I would express some and add drops to it in a bottle and give it from that - you can keep it in the fridge if you follow the info in the leaflet).

Infacol, dentinox drops and gripe water didn't seem to do anything for him although I gave them all a good go.

I hope it gets better soon. I can't imagine how hard it must be when you have another child to care for too

I have a box of unopened colief which I bought just before he stopped needing it...if you pm me your address I'd be happy to send it to you for you to try if you like

Aww thanks Lisa 1980. That is so kind of you . I don't need to take you up on your kind offer as I have actually just ordered some colief from amazon last night after reading how it does seem to have made a difference to some babies. I think I'll have to try and get him to take it from a spoon or syringe as he refuses bottles but I'll try.

I'm going to pay another visit to the doctor too armed with as much information as I can learn about silent reflux to see if he will look into the possibility of Tommy having that.

It certainly is hard going at the moment. My daughter has not long turned two and is the tantrum queen at the moment so with that as well as poor Tommy's colic I'm ready to tear my hair out!

Well, I've found out a lot about silent reflux and we've got a doctors appointment tomorrow so hopefully will try and get some answers armed with information and determined not to be fobbed off. Tommy is not fussy when he's breastfeeding though and feeds well so I just don't know if this is the cause of the 'colic' or not. The colief didn't make a difference for us unfortunately.

Are most colicky babies also high needs? Tommy was not high needs until the colic started but now he needs holding/ entertaining every minute of the day and will be fussy even when he's not having a fit of colic. He also never, ever naps during the day no matter how hard we try to get him to nap and I wonder if this is also common for colicky babies.

All I do know is that when this colic has gone I will be dancing in the streets!! I'm naturally a very calm person but I do feel like I'm being pushed to breaking point with this now . I think until colic is experienced first hand it is impossible to even guess at how terrible and soul destroying it actually is.

This too shall pass...medically speaking uncommon after 4 months and very unusual after 6...Holly has it too she is just 3 months and slowly improving...our solution (don't judge!) is what I call swing chair delux!! Basically I park Holly in her swing chair in front of television (!) with dummy and a teddy comforter blanket...helps a good bit...a few ounces of feed also settles things. Good luck...you will get there xx

Have you tried white noise?
This often settles my LO when nothing else will.

My midwife kept telling me my LO had colic. It turns out it was actually mild reflux. I was told that keeping LO upright for 30 mins after a feed helps. Never pat to burp, just rub clockwise over your shoulder or over your knees with her legs lower than the head. And to tilt her crib to a 30 to 45 degree angle. My LO has been like a different baby since using those tips. We also use infacol before every feed.

I'm not saying these will help as obviously my LO is much younger and your LO may not have reflux but iy might be worth a try xx

.
It's hard to say because colicky/reflux babies never really learn to settle in the beginning like most... 'normal' (lol) babies?? Once you hit age 1 and beyond, when most reflux settles, you'll start to realize whether it was just gastro/reflux or that PLUS high needs. Time will tell.

But yes, once the colic finally ends, you'll realize how easy toddlers truly are in comparison

He does actually settle down a little when the vacuum cleaner is on. That's the only source of white noise that seems to work for him though. If it wasn't for my poor toddler who would hate it I would be seriously tempted to keep the hoover running all day!
