Thank you hun . He's breastfed. I BF my daughter for 17 months until she self weaned and I wanted to do the same for Tommy but I'm actually starting to think my milk mustn't be working for him and is causing him pain so am wondering whether I should try formula. I'm a diehard breastfeeder so to be thinking of changing him to formula is a big thing for me but I just want him to be better. I just don't know what to do anymore. Aaarggh I just feel so useless. I hope the gaviscon starts to work soon but I'm not holding my breath .

How old is your LO? Does anything work to ease her colic?

JC, I have a video EXACTLY like this on my phone of George screaming when he was a bit younger than Tommy is now. Honestly, if you met George now, you would never believe it. He is the happiest baby ever, I know it doesn't feel like it, but this will get better. Fingers crossed for the Gaviscon, but if you don't get good results don't lose heart as it didn't work for us, we had to keep going until we got an actual acid blocker. We were lucky to see someone good very early on with G. If cow's milk is an issue then formula could make things worse, it is really worth persevering with a totally dairy and soya free diet for a few weeks to see whether this helps. Does propping him up help? I had to keep George upright for 20 minutes after a feed, even at night and he often ended up sleeping in his bouncer or co-sleeping. If I put him down on his playmat he would scream blue murder. I wish there was more I could do to help, just know that soon it will be a memory

^^ exactly what Cattia says, until I went on a dairy free diet, used colief and started omeprazole...Ally cried and cried and cried. I cried. DH must have felt like it. Lizzie, bless her, was a trooper.

The above combination turned this little ball of angst, tears and pain into *the* most chilled, smiling and happy little girl.

Dairy made the biggest difference, omeprazole fine tuned.

I remember Cattia supporting me (so wonderfully) through this stage, and me thinking 'i can't see how it will pass'....and it does

If you ever want an offload, feel free to pm, visitor message etc xx

Hi hun

I'm so sorry... that is exactly what my boy was like. Does he react any differently if you hold him upright after a feed for 20-30 minutes? (and feed him upright, it's easier in a sling if BF).

An elimination diet is important too of course. When we went to formula, it made it even worse.

Thanks so much ladies .

Cattia and TennisGal, I'm so glad to hear how chilled out your little ones became. I think Tommy's 'real' personality is very chilled out. In the 5 weeks before colic started he was a dream baby, so chilled and never ever cried. Everyone, including the HV, commented on what a calm little chap he was and I felt so blessed then literally overnight everything changed.

I dislike myself for saying it as I am so lucky to have him and I love him so much but I am literally hating every day at the moment. It feels like grounhog day every day and I feel like I'm being a bad parent to Daisy as Tommy takes up so much of my time and attention. I had to go into work for some training for 2 hours earlier and I actually loved the break. Cattia, remember how much I dreaded the end of my maternity leave with Daisy, well I go back in 3 weeks and am really looking forward to a break from the screaming. It breaks my heart for Daisy as I will get a break at work, hubby gets a break in the evenings at work but Daisy is stuck listening to it constantly . We have no family near by and nobody that can help us out.

I am starting the dairy free diet seriously. I think even though I have cut out obvious dairy I have not been careful enough with hidden dairy. I am veggie as well so not too sure what I'll actually be able to eat but it sounds like it will definitely help from your experiences. Any advice on how you went about a dairy free diet would be appreciated.I have been keeping him upright after a feed and generally as much as I possibly can.

The gaviscon has had no effect at all, as yet. We've had a hellish day today, with him crying none stop the whole day and not a single nap.

It's okay to admit that it sucks having a colic baby and that you don't like being a mom right now. It's OKAY if that's how you truly feel. That's how I felt at the time too. Honestly,I don't know how people can see videos of screaming colic babies and think "we" have to say "oh yeah....... love this!" when it goes on for hours and hours daily. It's pure hell. It was HORRIBLE. I hated the first 4 months of Alex's life and I have no shame admitting it. At least I didn't have another child to care for. you have it worse...

If you are a vegetarian that's fine, just try and get most of your recipes from vegan rather than vegetarian sources.

JC...this thread is fab support...

http://www.babyandbump.com/breastfee...free-moms.html

I found there was no difference until I cut even hidden dairy out...so lots of label watching. You do, however, find that there are some amazing yummy DF treats out there. Chocolafe, cakes etc.

I can now have reasonable amounts of dairy in my diet without any adverse affect on littlest.

If you've got any questions, do shout...and that thread is so helpful Just think, things will now get better

I actually think Tommy is a little better. He is on the gaviscon (although it is making him a bit constipated) and my diet is properly dairy free and he's still screaming a lot but not for as many hours. Today and yesterday he screamed in pain for maybe 3 hours on both days but compared to 13 hours a day last weekend there is definitely an improvement. I went to see the health visitor yesterday and we discussed him starting on ranitidine so hopefully the doctor will agree with that when we have to go back a week on Monday.
