Huge Hun. I was praying for the 4 month mark as this was supposed to be the "magic" time and when it came and went with no change I was gutted.

It WILL get easier. I promise your chilled little man will be back soon. In the meantime don't be afraid to keep badgering the GP if you need to. When is he 17 weeks? Obviously I'd speak to health professionals to confirm but that was the time my paediatrician said gradual weaning was fine from (we literally gave just baby rice for a few weeks).

The other thing - could it be something else completely? Does calpol help? It didn't for Rebecca but I'm always conscious that teething etc could exacerbate it xx

Thanks hun .

He is past 17 weeks so when I go to the doctors I will speak to her about possible weaning. She said it would hopefully improve when he's weaned when I saw her last time but she never mentioned weaning earlier.

What I am scared of is in case it is something else altogether. For weeks and weeks it was fobbed off as colic every time I spoke to a health care professional. Then they said reflux was very likely after I really pushed but I'm scared in case there is something really wrong with him and it has been overlooked. I have described how much he cries, how in pain he is, I have shown them a video, changed my whole diet and nothing is helping him yet. I don't know how they can be so sure that there's nothing seriously wrong with him. They have basically said as he's gaining weight, followed the 75th centile line the whole time, they've taken his temperature, listened to his chest, checked him over and looks fine then he IS fine. But he isn't fine. He's in pain more often than not. He's very rarely happy and in those moments when he is happy and not in pain he's such a different little boy. I wonder if they'd refer me to a paedatrician.

The worst thing is as the weeks and months are going on I feel myself getting cross and frustrated when he's screaming and have to walk away for 2 mins. I'm a very patient person normally. Daisy was NEVER left to cry as a baby. I coped with 13 months of sleepless nights with her perfectly well. I can cope perfectly well with 30 kids at work on a daily basis, but Tommy's constant screaming is slowly sending me insane I think .

That's exactly how I felt. Just keep persevering - it won't feel like it now but it will improve. Keep me posted xx

I'm so sorry that your going through this, it must be horrid! That is unusual for colic to last this long, although I read that in some cases it can last til 5 months. The only advice that I can give is keep pushing! Your his mother you know when something is wrong and don;t let the dr.'s push you around, bother them day and night til you get answers!

i'd take him in to be checked out. LO has a hernia that needs an operation and our pediatrician said that if he cries unconsolably for more than 3-4 hours something is wrong as usually even with colic crying will wear them out.

half an hour total no crying? how is he feeding whilst crying? this doesnt sound right i also think it might be more then just "colic"

My daughter had colic and silent reflux from 3 weeks old and it was so stressful i was tempted to leave my OH with her, couldnt bond with her and basically didnt like her ' I know thats a nasty thing to say, but its true' She was never happy during the day and i use to dread the 7pm feed cos thats when the screaming started for weeks this went on, changed her formula, added Dentinox and Gaviscon to feeds, still wasnt helping. Researched White noise and found once i switched my Vacum on she would automatically stop screaming and would slowly settle in my arms listening to it, so i went onto Youtube and saved 12hrs of hoovering to my laptop, before my vacum burnt out

Few weeks later found out she was intolerant to cows milk and have to watch her diet, hopefully she will grow out of this allergy before age 3...

Really hope it gets better for you

Try probiotics. Colic is just a bs excuse drs use for "idk and i am not going to take the time to find out". I take my baby to a naturalist Dr now because i got tired of dealing with bs from her regular Dr. She cured my babys "colic" in about an hour. Babies really do not cry for no reason. It is just hard figuring out why sometimes.

I would honestly try ranitidine right away. It's amazing stuff, Holly was like a different baby on it. She was put on it at 2 months, and we saw an improvement straight away. She has CMPI too, so she was only fully 'cured' once put on a prescription formula too.

He isn't crying when he's feeding. He feeds fine every 3 hours or so. I meant half an hour out his total 'awake' time (when he is not asleep or feeding.) Not that he sleeps much during the day at all. He will catnap on us for a short time but won't go down for a nap.

Thanks for the advice everyone. He has been to the doctors many , many, many times about this over the last 3 months and I have an appointment for him again for later in the week so I'm hoping they'll prescribe ranitidine then as so many people say that made a difference. I'm also going to ask for a referral to a paedatrician.
