Anybody else's babies just not in any sort of routine what so ever?!

I don't know if I'm expecting too much as she's only 5 weeks old but she isn't in any sort of pattern/routine at all. Everyone I've spoke to seems to say "my baby eats every 3-4hrs" but mine eats when she wants, could down 3 bottles in an hour or go 7hrs and only have 1. She cat naps some days and sleeps all day others...is all this normal or should I be getting consistancy by now?

My baby is a little older than yours but we've never had a routine since we brought him home from the hospital. DH and I just follow his cues. We feed when he's hungry and put him to bed when he shows signs of sleepiness. He is in the 97th percentile for height and 75th for weight, breastfed (sometimes he drinks pumped milk from a bottle at his Nana's while I'm at work) and sleeps through the night. He is a happy boy on most days

Edit: when he was a newborn, I would wake him up to eat if it has been 3 hours since his last feed. I've never let him go past that. I stopped doing that around 6 or 7 weeks. Now he eats and naps whenever his little heart desires.

Sophia doesnt have a routine during the day. I tried sticking to one but it didnt wrk. She eats when she wants, and sleeps when she wants. At night its a bit more predictable. i give her a bath and she falls asleep around 6.30- 7.30 pm until midnight or so. Then wakes again around 2 or 3am then again around 4 or 5am... zzzzzzzzz

Sounds normal to me. Isobel didn't have any routine before 3 months old, and then all we introduced was a bedtime.

Until about 8 months when we reduced her milk to increase solids, her feeding was always on demand. I'm a big believer in baby-led care especially in the first 6 months. Some babies naturally space out their feeds every 3-4 hours but some go longer or shorter. I also know some people who have enforced a feeding routine early, which isn't for me personally as I think at that age they are hungry when they're hungry and there's no gain making them wait (imo).

In terms of naps, Isobel has always been erratic. She would nap at some point but there was no guessing if it would be 10 mins or 2 hours or when it would be. As she's gotten older this has balanced out more and she's set her own consistent nap routine.

Let's see...

My LO will eat about every 3-4 hours during the day, with about two five hour stretches where he sleeps a bit more.

I have noticed though that he has been getting hungry between feeds.

No routine per say though, but he does have awake time during the day where he is WIDE awake and ready to play.

DH does night feeds (I bottle feed obviously), and he said that LO was wide awake at two a.m. ready to play So no routine yet
