I don't sterilize anything. Parker's pacifiers get rinsed off under the faucet if it drops on the floor nipple down and picks up dog hair/dirt. If it lands nipple up, I just put it back in his mouth.

He's never had a bottle, but with Ethan I just washed them in hot soapy water and let them air dry. Would do the same this time, I imagine. I never sterilized anything with him, either.

I don't make people wash their hands before picking Parker up (they can if they want, but I don't really care unless they were just handling raw meat )... I just generally don't worry about it.

No im not worried, I do sterilise his bottles but not really for any reason apart from its part of my routine in the morning and it only takes a minute..Im going to stop in a few weeks though.

I have a friend who is completely the opposite, she sterilises everything - every night she cleans and anti bac wipes every single toy that has been played with and if anyone at her DD play school has a cold she doesnt send her!!

I'm the same way. I've only given a few bottles of expressed milk, but I just washed them in soapy hot water and air dried. His paci doesnt usually get washed for falling on the floor unless a dog hair is on it. I think if we disenfect everything they touch they are going to have horrible immune systems and catch every little sickness around. Back when my parents had us, they didnt boil water, sterelize, wash everything down. My mom was pretty shocked when I told her the routine of making bottles. Thank god I don't have to do it!

I'm fairly slap-dash when it comes to sterilising etc.

I do sterilse bottles and the breast pump (scared of thrush!) but I don't with his pacifiers - just a wash if they're dirty.

He's continuously shoving things in his mouth at the moment so I'd have to sterilise the entire flat if I were worried. There's not that many bugs on day-to-day things (except raw meat etc, obviously, or if you live in a lab ) that kill you and the only way to build a good immune system is exposure to germs, so I don't worry about it too much.

I have a feeling he's going to be a child who loves to roll around in mud so I might as well get used to it now

I have relaxed a lot. I still sterilise bottles but dummies get washed or sucked clean by me. toys aren't wiped with sterilising wipes etc.

I agree, I only sterilised her dummies once, when we first bought them, then just washed them after that. Plus, if she drops her food on the floor, she will most definitely bend down and gobble it up. As long as its not outside I don't mind

I don't worry either. I was more worried in the beginning about making sure everyone washed their hands, bottles, pacifiers, toys, etc were sterilized...but now I don't worry so much. Only time I cringe is at daycare her sitter will just hand her a toy and of course it goes immediately in her mouth and who knows who touched it last but I really can't keep that from happening and request she wash everything she give my LO, because I think I'd be looking for a new sitter. My pediatrician even said people are too cautious and thats why we are developing so many allergies, because we don't expose our children to things and thats why 3rd world countries don't have food allergies like we do.

I've heard that too about allergies, I hope it's true, with 2 big dogs and a cat in the house my child should have a killer immunity to their allergens I would hope, lol.

I always find it cute when people who want to hold lo say "oh wait, let me wash my hands first" and run away to wash them and hurry back. I'm thinking Why, are you sick?? Unless someone has a cold or something I could care less if they wash their hands!

I grew up in a dirty house. five kids, no running water, and drank straight from a stream, dogs, cats. I still ended up with asthma, bad allergies (some food gives me ezcema too), hives, etc. My asthma and allergies got better when I left home. Same with some of my siblings. I am not a believer at all that being too clean is the cause. Genetic is. And my son got my genes.
