When did your baby start to smile and laugh a lot?

My son has been smiling since about four weeks, but they were few and far between. Today, he smiled at me a few times when I was playing with him. I'm sad though, because I just read that he should be laughing by now, and he has not yet laughed. Also, he doesn't smile a lot at all, and I just read that they usually smile a lot at 7 weeks.

Is he not happy?

Should he be smiling more than a few smiles a day?

When did your LO start to smile a lot? And laugh?

Thanks,

JB

Willow first smiled randomly and not pften at 4 weeks, although was mainly at the ceiling or nappy bin....

She started smiling more at about 7-8 weeks, again only really when she was on her changing mat and at inanimate objects. No matter what I did I couldn't produce more smiles myself.

She only started smiling at people and reacting to toys this week...week 10, and still hasn't laughed as such.

Your lo sounds fine and normal, they are all different and develop at different speeds.

Is there anything in particular thta makes him smile?

He smiled at me today, but by the time he did, my jaw was sore from smiling so much at him, lol, so it takes a lot to even get him to smile. Thank you both so much

My LO started smiling early on, around 6wks, but didn't giggle till she was a big 3mos. And that was only when we tried hard to get her to giggle! lol. She'll giggle a lot more now... but I think your LO is right on track hun. All babies develop at different stages- there is a typical "range"- but if they aren't right on that track they will be soon
