Tax credits - quick question

We have not applied for tax credits as I heard that from April you have to be earning £18K or less to qualify. Is this still the case? Has there been any change in the budget on this does anyone know? Our joint income is about £27K including rent from a property, so I am guessing there is no point in applying?

I would like to know this too, im back at work part time due to go full time in April, im on more than the 18k but am trying to decide whether to drop a day which would take me under the £18,000 so I could claim tax credits .. obviously not just for this reason but I cant bear to be away from my LO for 5 days a week so if I could get a bit of tax credits that would be the decider!!

In April the threshold for child tax credits goes down from £41300 to £26k however if you are on statutory maternity pay you discount the first £100 of your weekly earnings xxx

So it is £26K not £18K? Do they also include in that salary deductions? (We use the childcare voucher scheme) My DH's earnings are not consistent so there is a chance we could come in under £26K, it might be worth me applying after all, especially as my salary will go down in the summer as I am currently still on salary protection from my old post before we had a restructure at work earlier in the year.

Yeah, each year at the beginning of April (5th I think is the new tax year) it's classed as a new claim. So even if you apply now and are below the threshold you will be back dated and paid up to the 4th April. If you then earn more than the new threshold - which will be £26,000 you will be entitled to nothing and they will stop. However I've just noticed you have 2 LO's and I believe the threshold is £32,500 so it may be worth giving them a ring or filling an application out anyways - all that will happen is you get a letter back saying you don't qualify

Thats what they told me on the phone, that when I earn my £128 per week smp just count £28 for income purposes, so when I worked it all out we were way under the threshold. Ring them up as right now they can still backdate for 3 months so that would be better than nothing xxx

Ring them asap cause they have to receive the claim before the 5th April or it's only 1 month. They have to send you a claim form out which can take "10 working days" and then they have to receive it back. I sent mine special at a cost of almost £6 just so I knew they'd get it and also got proof of delivery so they couldn't say they didn't receive it

At the moment the threshold is £42k and it is going down to £26k if you have 1 child and £32k if you have 2
