Lung Abscess, Pneumonia.... update pg15 AFTER SURGERY.

Gracelynn has had a cough for a couple weeks (about 4) and two weeks ago we took her to the doctor over it. The doctor (who wasn't her ped) listened to her lungs with a stethoscope and told us she was fine and probably had allergies.

Well tuesday night she was running a fever (100.4) so we took her in to the er. (it was around midnight)
They listened to her lungs, said they sounded good but would run some labs and take a chest x ray. They ended up having to do a lumbar puncture and take spinal fluid.

At first they told us she had an aggressive pneumonia and we were admitted immediately.

Now they're saying she has an abscess in her lung, takes up 2/3rds of her right lung. They have her on two different IV antibiotics in a pic line that is in her scalp.
Her doctor said she is probably going to require surgery to cut out parts of her lung that are so bad. She said her lung will never heal on its own, but hopefully the abscess will shrink up, so they'll take less. We are going to be on IV fluids for at least 7-10 days and oral after that for 4-6 weeks. We'll have another CT scan on her chest at 6 weeks and go from there with surgery.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
Also would you please send positive thoughts and prayers our way? We could really use them. I feel like I've hit rock bottom. My baby is so sick.

Here's a picture of her... she's so strong.

I rarely post, but I didn't want to 'read and run' as you ladies say...

I have not been through anything like this, but I just wanted to comment on how beautiful your little peanut is, and I hope she has a speedy recovery!! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I cannot imagine what you must be going through right now.

The only lung absess case I know of personally was an uncle of mine who contracted histoplasmosis. He had to have part of one of his lungs removed.
He is fine, but he was sick for a long time.
