just my expectations? or ... ?

my Seanie is 8 days old and perfectly healthy according to the paediatrician ...

but when I was pregnant, he moved a lot, so we expected an active, night-crying, fussy, possibly prone to colic baby.

he's so still and quiet! seems he only likes to wake up for feedings, and even then I have a hard time sometimes, he'll just stick for five minutes then drift off to sleep and won't budge even if changed, swaddled, unwrapped, played with, kissed, talked at, rocked ...

even when he's awake, he just stares at things and sucks on his hands, grunts, coos ... only time when he cries is when he's frustrated at not being able to latch on (he squeals a little), and when I change his nappy (he had mild nappy rash when we brought him home from the hospital, but that's sorting itself out and now cries loads less during changings).

am I doing something wrong?
perhaps I'm feeding him too little? the paeds says his poop and pee patterns sound consistent with good feedings, but yeah.

are all newborns like this?
where's the tiny terror my husband and I expected!?

Maybe he is just a very content little boy, he may have wriggled alot when pregnant as the room was limited so had trouble getting comfy?
Just a guess really, if he is having dirty and wet nappies then im sure everything is ok.
Im sure he will come out of himself, they dont stay quiet for very long lol.

Our little man was like this for the first week or so. Everybody kept saying how lucky we were to have such a good baby... But yeah... He's starting to make up for it now he's starting to have a little bit more awake time during the day lol. He stays awake for ages in the afternoon, sleeps all evening (between about 9pm-2am ish) and then doesn't sleep the rest if the night o.O

Enjoy it while it lasts

XxX

I'm no expert as I'm a first timer too but I would say give him time...

My little man was just like this, the wriggliest bump ever especially at night.

Then when he arrived he fed 4 hourly and went straight back to sleep afterwards - apparently this is quite unusual for a breastfed baby.

Anyway at 3 weeks old he suddenly woke up and learned to cry. There was no settling him in the evenings for at least 2 weeks from then. His clock was completely back to front and it was awful!

So it might be still to come, hope not though, sounds like you have a little star x

My son was so active in the womb that I would actually get sore from his non-stop moving. We nicknamed him Hellboy before we had a name picked out, because we were SO sure that we were in for a little terror.

And then he was born.

He is the sweetest little baby I have ever met. He didn't cry when he was born... I hardly heard him cry at all in the first month. Its only been in the past week that he's started crying, and even when that happens, all I have to do is pick him up and he settles immediately. He's calm, he sleeps GREAT (been sleeping through the night consistently since 8 weeks, sleeps 10 or more hours a night now and has for a few weeks!)... he's just a generally VERY easy going baby.

Newborns sleep a lot. Like 20 hours a day or something, I've read. So that's normal.

As for how your bump is going to turn into your baby... you can never be too sure. You could just have a very easy going baby on your hands! Only time will tell

My little girl is the same. She is so laid back I have been surprised. She has started to stay awake a lot more during the day but she is still a good sleeper at night which I am thankful for. She loves her milk and has a good pattern of wet and dirty nappies as well. Like others have said, I am enjoying it while it lasts incase she changes tomorrow and I wish it all back again haha x

Newborn babies don't do much other than sleep. In babies that tiny, a lot of them don't even wake up to eat and often fall asleep again before they are finished feeding.

You aren't doing anything wrong at all, so don't worry!

Maybe your next one will be a different baby! Hehe! Well that's what I get told a lot. My LO was pretty much the opposite of your wee one, 9.5 months later I'm beginning to get a nights sleep haha. Congrats on your wee bundle and enjoy,
