Organix mini rice cakes & choking

Hi ladies, just wondering if any of you have tried these with your LO and whether they choked on them? My dd is 7months and loves her food, has managed other finger foods e.g broccoli, apple, boiled egg, bread, pizza crusts, and can feed herself very well. The packet [I]does say from 7months on but I'm going to have to stop giving them to her. She has choked badly 3times now (unable to breathe and required quickly putting over my arm with hard slaps to the back to get it up) is it just the texture I wonder?? It's like she's not registering it's still in her throat until it's too late! Scary!! x

My little one has had difficulties with these too. I just stopped giving them to her until she was a couple of weeks older and she's alright with them now. I think the age they are suitable for is just a guide really. If she's struggling but you want her to try other 'finger foods' we found that the carrot sticks and tomato pieces (basically they are corn snacks) worked well to help Eleanor realise what she was meant to do (i.e. chew!). I'm sure the corn snacks cannot really be that good for babies but I only give Eleanor a couple a day so I assume it does no harm really :-)

My LO has only recently been able to eat them without choking and she is 9 months i would wait a few more weeks and try again.

Yes she's had their carrot sticks (like you we only gave 2per day) and she is fine with them. I think I'll just stop giving her the rice cakes and go back to them in a few weeks like you girls have done x

They always make my LO throw up. Nice. He's the same, he just seems to shove the whole thing in without chewing.

Yeah the throw-up from them isn't great is it! I've just had to bleach her vests and the muslin cloths from the blue stains!! x

I'm not keen on them, they always seem to get stuck . He eats other things fine but I don't think they're complexly chewable especially if theyre not sucked on enough iykwim?! I love the little organic vanilla hearts, have you tried those? Really good for pincer grips and very clean so fab for keeping them quiet if your shopping and don't want the pram in a state!!

I just use regular rice cakes. Much cheaper and you can break them into larger pieces

Leo has been fine with them since he was 5.5 months old when we started BLW! But then he's never really gagged/choked/vomited. He holds them with both hands and looks like a squirrel holding a nut as he nibbles/sucks away on it! hehe Like the others have said though maybe leave them for a while and then try again in a few weeks x x x
