Is it still self-settling if you need to give LO a dummy/pacifier?

I was all proud of myself as my LO seems to be getting better at 'self-settling'. She always goes down awake into her cot and has a kick around and a chat for about 10-15 minutes before she goes to sleep (unless she is overtired and it takes longer). But the more I think about it, I doubt it is actually self-settling as I go in a few times during that period to give her the dummy and when she falls asleep, it's usually with the dummy. If she is overtired, she will escalate from chatting to whinging/crying and the dummy is the only thing that will settle her.

What is actually classed as self-settling? Is it without another human being present? Or without any sleep aids?

I class it as without the need to rock and shush and pat to sleep! LO went down awake, swaddled with a dummy and Ewan the Dream Sheep and is now asleep.

Self setting is going down awake and going to sleep without being rocked, patted etc. My wee guy had his teeth brushed helped walk to bed, lifted into bed given his dummy and teddy and went to sleep.

Both of mine settle to sleep with a dummy and their cot mobiles, they're both in bed by 7 and settle off to sleep without me being there so I definately class that as self settling x
