That's a little bizarre. Alex has only had breastmilk and water. I never contemplated tea! I've thought a little bit about juice, but he's happy with water and boobie juice so who am I to complain?

I love tea and have it twice a day only... i think it sounds odd to offer your LO tea

Plus i dont think LO might like the taste of it on a serious matter, i give my LO Heinz juice and dilute it - like 1 part juice and 10 parts water

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought it was odd. My HV didn't specify what type of tea, although I ASSUME it would be meant without caffeine. You never know though...

My LO drinks water though, so I wasn't sure what the benefit would be of offering him juice/tea.

Thanks for th feedback!

I hope your HV isnt giving that 'advice' to all her mums

Tea contains tanin which hinders the absorbtion of iron in the body and juice isnt great anyway.

I see nothing wrong with just giving water and milk

Our LO wants everything we I have and kept reaching for our coffee, so we bought him some decaf and gave him a very weak drink of that. Now he can have it though, he's no longer interested in it. He had maybe a few sips and decided he'd rather have breastmilk and he's never reached for it again. I'd never give him fully caffeinated though.

Actually, I've been looking at the other responses and I'd forgotten about the iron problems, probably because we never have tea. So, in that case, no I'd never give LO tea, even decaf.

Babies and toddlers should not drink tea as it stops them absorbing iron -if your HV is offering this advice then she really needs to stipulate which type of tea she is referring to.
