I agree with patch2006uk and take the shields off half way through a feed and keep trying to latch, if she doesn't get on properly, ake her off and try again. good luck i know how hard it is!!!!
Yeah, we have been trying that... Ny nipples don't come out enough for her to grab. We've tried the shells too with no success

What about when you pump? Do they perk up, so to speak? Could you pump for a couple minutes and then latch her on?

Nope, they come out with the suction, but never stay once it lets go iykwim. They're just totally flat. They weren't like this before pregnancy, they got worse as my boobs grew

Try the pumping and then immediately latch her on while they are still out

I have no issues with sitting and nursing all night... But how long would you let her suckle and cry for if she wasn't getting a single drop?

I wouldn't have given in if I wasn't 100% sure she was starving. Her stomach was growling and hadn't had a proper feed all day. She took the whole bottle, if she wasn't hungry she wouldn't have done that.

We have been trying to latch without the shields since day one... Tried every trick in the book and have lactation consultants around all the time.... She just cannot latch my nipples.
I'm sure you did the right thing. No one knows your baby better than you, and its easy for us to sit on the other side of the screen and say keep trying when we dont have a screaming baby. But if you are determined to breastfeed keep pumping so your supply doesnt drop and put her to the breast as much as possible xxx

Cluster feeding is horrible, and draining. But she won't starve. And formula will just tell your body to make less milk (unless you pump in place of the feed). If she sleeps for longer after formula too, the knock on effects overall could be quite significant.

Growth spurts tend to last 3 days, so just roll with it. As long as her nappies are fine, all is well.

I do agree about the nipple shields, though. Try to get her latching without then if you can.
Sorry for hijacking, but this makes me curious: What if they're not pooping 4x a day, but when they do it's far larger than a coin? I've been worrying a bit about that. She's almost 3 weeks old.

Quick google seems to suggest they expect 'several' yellow, seedy poos a day for babies under 6 weeks. And less frequent poos should be bigger.

Less frequent pooing could be a warning flag for low weight gain. Have you had your LO weighed? Is she gaining? If so, I wouldn't worry

She was 4oz over her birth weight by 12 days old, so I think she's OK?

That's good weight gain! if her nappies change dramatically, or the number drops, then maybe seek a medical opinion. If she's having regular poos that are large, and a good weight gain, I personally wouldn't worry. It's normal for poo frequency to reduce to as little as fortnightly around the 6 week mark, but before then you'd expect more frequent poos if all is well.
