We've read to our son pretty much since he was born. It used to help when he was a lot younger as some days it was hard to think of things to say to him (I was keen to keep talking as much as possible to help with his language development) so the books really helped!! And my son absolutely his books now, it's so sweet as he finishes of the sentences in some of the books he loves! His language is amazing - he could say over 100 words at 18 months and it's just exploded since then, we have lost count of his words now! It's also nice when you are trying to have some quiet time.

We probably read about 4 different books a day as a minimum (and then sometimes we'll read the same book over and over if our son loves the book - as we can't resist "again please Mama"!)

I would definitely recommend starting reading now x

We've been reading to our LO since she was about 10 weeks old. She likes the cloth books and books that have crinkly bits or things she can touch. It's amazing watching her get more interested in them as time goes on. It's one of my favourite parts of the day and sometimes I get my OH to join in too and we take on characters and put on silly voices. Great fun xx

I read while my LO has his bottle. Not every night, but most nights he doesn't understand since he's only 5 weeks old, but he listens to my voice and it helps him calm down after the excitement of being in the bath

We are currently working our way through the Winnie The Pooh collection! And we also have The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child I want to get him The Very Hungry Caterpillar next... That's my all time favourite children's book! Haha. Going to get some fairy tale books too eventually

XxX

I have read to her every day since birth but not at bedtime, rather during the day when she's alert and rested. Sometimes after a nap while she's coming out of it/waking up fully. Now she loves books, she has her little pile, crawls over, picks one and I read it, then the next etc. At this age she likes to hit and poke at the books so I have the hard ones like the Very Hunger Catapilar etc. Also ones without too much text per page as she gets bored. Clap Hands is her favorite right now. Crinkly soft books she thinks are toys not so much books. It's never too soon to start, I say

I started reading to DD when she was about 6 weeks old, and when she was that small she cried too when I tried to read to her. She would squirm and act like she didn't enjoy it one bit, I kept trying though and some days were better than others. Around 5 months she started to get into it more, she liked to look at all the bright pictures on the pages. When she was 6 and 7 months she liked to happy scream at the pictures as I was reading to her, and now that she is 10 months, she likes to help me turn the pages DD loves her books, she will often crawl over to her bookshelf and pull the books off and flip through the pages.

The books we have are all books I have a fondness for as I grew up reading them too we have Dr. Suess books, we love the Foot Book, we also have Goodnight Moon, Snuggle Up Sleepy Ones, a few counting books and books about colors, touch and feel books and classic nursery rhymes

I read to LO when she isnt ready for bed after her bath. It helps extend the night time routine by 10-15 minutes so she can get relaxed/sleepy. So as a result we only actually read a book 2-3x a week.

But usually during the day at some point I read parts of the newspaper to her, or read outloud B&B, or the ingredients off the back of whatever it is I am making dinner with.

I started reading to her when she was inside me (Dr. Seuss), but after she was born I started showing her books with small amounts of text and lots of pictures.

Do they have board books there? They are durable, have lots of pictures, not much text, and babies can actually hold them and turn the pages. That is only what I read to her now and show her pictures too. She absolutely loves them. I don't try to read paper books because she would probably destroy them. I sit her in my lap and point to the text and pictures and when she seems tired I don't "make" her finish, iykwim?

I read to her at all times of the day and we also have lots of picture books that she loves to look at by herself. It is cute to watch her turn the pages and point to things in the book and babble like she is "reading".

I am an avid reader and I agree it is never too early to start reading to your LO.
