Reading to your LO

Do you read to your LO and what age did you start reading to him / her? Also which books would you recommend for a 4 month old baby or does it not matter what you read to them?

I don't read to my LO, but I would like to start now if you think it would be beneficial to start reading to him.

i want to include a story in LOs bedtime routine as ts something kids love and remember when they gte older being red too. However i oftern wonder is there any point in babies so young? Then again with my 7month old all he wants to do is eat the book or my hand so i dont bother. Iv only tried with really simple little baby books with picturs and textures compared to one with words.

I have read to my LO since she was inside me lol but since she has been born I read to her the Childrens Bible Stories, the Disney collection...todays was the Lion King!! I have bought her The Hungry Caterpiller, Princess collection, ''Thats not my...'' range and am making her a mini library!! Its not too early and it soothes my LO as she hears my voice and loves looking at the colours and shapes!!

I've read to LO pretty much since she was born even though she was oblivious to it really but i think 4 months is a great age to start. Any books with faces or black, white and red patterns go down a treat. Also the usborne touchy feely books are lovely although just have words and pics rather than a story as such. Lots of old classics are good such as the very hungry catapillar etc. Www.redhouse.co.uk, they have lovely books at great prices x

Willow cries when I read to her....obviously doesn't appreciate the voices I put on for different characters, so I've given up, will try again when she's older!

I read to Louis all the time, from when he was a few weeks old really. When he was that young he just had soft books with black and white picture on a yellow background so I would just show them to him and make stuff up about the pictures.
He's 8 months now and still has a few cloth books with simple stories in them and a few board books, he loves the touchy feely ones and trys to feel all his books now.
As soon as I pick a book up he will happily sit quietly with me and listen to me read it and if I put it down once we've finished he normally picks it straight back up again.

I've read to Amelia since birth, she is getting more interested now (17 weeks) but thats probably more to do with my silly faces and voices! I'm reading the magic faraway tree to her, we also have Peter Rabbit collection and Disney Princesses, both me and DH are bookworms so hoping Lo will be too! xxx
