Is this normal **Poop picture alert**

Hiya

Okay so my lo has cmpi and silent reflux and is on gaviscon so generally has solid poos which tend to be yellow/greenish in colour. As we are weaning she does tend to have some darker which are covered in the food she has had eg orange/carrot etc. Past few days I have noticed they are getting darker and today it is pretty much black/v.dark purple with a greenish grey on the other side. It stained her bottom which was hard to get off. I am just wondering if this is normal as when I had a tar like stool it turned out I had a small gastro-bleed and I am hoping she hasnt had the same!! Past few days she has had mango and also carrot & potato and a bit of sweet potato bake so nothing that normally causes this colour poo! She has been unsettled since saturday until we take her to bed (we co sleep) and I am not sure if this is related or just coincidence. She has had her really happy smily times as usual.

I have added a pic as am unsure what to think of it!

xx

I would take her to the doctors. I know black stool can be caused by bleeding so that would be enough for me. There may be some other explanation for it but best to get it checked.

No doesn't look normal. Prob best to see a dr, is she ok in herself though?

I know iron can cause black poo's. Has she ate something that had added iron?

ETA: Id also get something to maybe help soften her poo while your at the GP, its can't be comfortable for her having been constipated myself before. Its no fun and makes you cranky.

She isnt constipated as such but just harder than normal stools but no issue getting them out. Dr & HV have said just to give her cool boiled water or juice as she is already on gaviscon, just recently come off ranitidine and also on nutramigen aa milk so they dont really want to add more meds to the mix.

I have spoken to HV and she said it may be the mix of her food and nutramigen and to keep an eye and if she has anymore or if gets darker to go see GP. I am going to monitor over the next 24 hours and see how it goes.

Thanks for the replies ladies!!

xx

Not too sure about the colour, but Paiges poops have always been formed this way, and the HV said it was totally fine. As long as she goes without pain and is regular. She sometmes has the more squishy poo but they are generally similar to your LOs (comparing poops eh!?) I have never had a black poo though...

Yeh black poo especially tar consistency (which this isn't) can indicate a bleed in the upper gastro tract like you yourself had, but hopefully it is a mix with the medication and introduction of foods causing this.
