Follow on milk 6 month +

Hi there.

Gonna be weaning baby VERY soon but atm as he has a case of a dodgy tummy I don't wanna push it.. however will try when he gets better.

I want to know whether we're meant to change to the 6 month+ milk or whether it doesn't matter either way. Whats the difference between this and the first milk?

I'm using SMA gold atm.

As long as lo has a balanced diet follow on milk is nesscesary

We use the 1st milk still

Follow on milk is made so the companies can advertise and have discounts so you buy it. As they cant do this on the 1st stage stuff

You don't have to switch to follow on if you don't want to

I switched from HiPP hungry baby to HiPP follow on at 6 months because it has more iron and Thomas doesn't eat enough food to make up for it in his diet yet

I think I will change to follow-on purely for financial reasons! There are always promotions on this milk and you get points on your Tesco card etc. As long as the milk agrees with LO I will switch.

I wouldn't switch for the above reasons.

Also the follow on milks are sweeter so they are worse for little teeth when they start to appear.

Follow on milk isn't a complete con. It contains more of some vitamins and minerals Han first milk - which is the reason we swapped onto it because Fran's milk intake had dropped dramatically and I wanted to make sure she got everything she needed - we also used SMA.

The choice is totally yours whether you change or not, first milk is suitable until a year old xx

Well I was worried about Alex getting enough iron and vitamins or whatever in his diet considering he won't be getting much in his diet initially... is it good for this reason or is it really not necessary to worry about iron and stuff until they turn 1?

I'm gonna try and get him at 3 meals a day by 7-8 months though, so was curious what to do as he's going to be having less milk than now obviously.

We started weaning Fran at 4 months and by 5-5.5 months she was down to 3 bottles a day, and not always drinking much out of them. That's why we made the decision to swap to follow on.

It's not something you have to do straight away, you can always see how things go when you start solids and go from there xx

i swapped for the same reasons as big betty. my los milk intake had dropped dramatically and i was worried he wasnt getting enough vitamins and iron. when i changed his milk intake increased a bit but i think he preffered the taste as it is quite sweet. dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing really but at least im not panicking all the time about him not drinking milk now

We swapped as we have started baby led weaning so more food is going on the floor and being squished than eaten at the moment. So wanted to make sure LO was getting everything she needed. Did cause her a little bit of constipation to start with for a day or two but fine now
