When is the latest you should start weaning?

My LO is 6 months old and we are still exclusively BF. I don't feel 100% sure that she is ready to start solids. She's not able to sit by herself and slouches over when I sit her in her high chair. Am I doing her any harm by not giving her solids for another few weeks yet? I've read that babies can't get sufficient iron from BM after 6months but I've also read that this is a myth.

Its a hard one cause they say that milk is still babies main diet until 1 yet they say that you increase chances of allergies if you don;t start introducing different things at around 6 months!!

My LO can't sit by himself yet but with support he can. we made sure we got a highchair that can provide extra support. I wasn't keen to start weaning but actually its quite fun.

I exclusively BF my first daughter for a whole year. She was fine. I did at some point supplement with Iron. She was not interested in dolids at all. Once she started eating she only had normal food, not baby stuff.

I don't think there is any harm in it, you might jsut find she will be a bit more fussy to start but she should be fine. xxx

yep, my DD2 is 4 and a half months and she has started rice cereal. she can sit easily with support and tries to sit for herself for short periods. She LOVES her rice cereal.

Just follow your instinct and you baby. try give her cereal or a veg or a fruit and see what she does

No worries, there's no exact date when you have to start. Just like some mommies think their baby is ready before 6 months, it's ok to wait a couple of weeks or so. I would say though to keep putting her in the high chair, she'll get used to it pretty quickly you'll see. I have lots of choking fears so I did a start-stop weaning, one day I'd give solids and then 3 days not at all. And LO is fine now and eats everything.

Hi, just to add in here: The European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology recommends that babies are given gluten-containing foods *before 7months* due to the evidence that introducing it later can lead to a gluten allergy x

If you don't think shed quite ready have you thought about BLW? they play with their food at first and eat once they are ready.
