We started with banana. He loves banana!!

I agree with others. leave out the rice, its just empty calories really. My LO likes porridge, bit more substance to it.

I think it's because they're more responsive to trying food at lunchtime than later on in the day when they're normally more tired, but of course you can try their first meal at any time of day if you want. Hope she enjoys her first tastes, be it whatever you decide to give her x

We never used baby rice. I think Alex's first food was toast with cream cheese, pear, and cucumber. No purees here!

Not sure what baby rice tastes like as we didn't have it. But as for timings we still struggle with dinner as LO is so tired and just wants milk. Whereas in the morning and lunch he eats loads! Depends on the baby I guess but my little boy definitely is a morning baby!

We do late afternoon around 4pm. I think it's in case they have any reaction or wind etc it's easier to spot and deal with. We started with rice to boost calorie intake and now I mix it with veggies. I actually don't mind the taste! We use the organix one but I won't be buying any more once it's run out.

Another non- babyrice user here! I gave dd sweet potato & carrot as her 1st food. I think the reason they recommend to start trying food earlier in the day is because their little tummies struggle to digest new stuff initially and of course when you go to bed your digestive system shuts off (well slows down dramatically!) for the night so if the food is given too close to bedtime it will just sit in their tummy and potentially give them pain. I hope this helps x

Thanks everyone! Well I've now tried baby rice, baby rice and banana, apple, baby rice and apple and apple and milk and she just looks at us like we're trying to poison her and twice as much ends up down her front than we started with!!

Sounds like a cue to stop and start up again with something different

I was just going to say skip the baby rice but looks like I'm too late. Most of my packet ended up in the bin waste of money.

TBH I tried to start weaning at 5.5months but LO wasn't intrested until 6.5 months then he took to food wish I'd ignored the grannies and laid of the food until he was ready could have saved me lots of grief.
