Right it's baby rice time! Need some advice...

Hey all.
After a week of 2 hourly feeds round the clock I've decided LO is hungry!! She was 14 days overdue so I reckon she's 'practically' 6 months now anyway!!
I was planning on starting her on a bit of baby rice and breastmilk today but all the books say start with lunchtime feeding and I quite fancy starting with dinner.
We're often out and about in the day and I'd like her to get used to a sir down evening family meal.
Is there any reason why you should start weaning with a lunchtime meal or is it ok to start at dinner time?

Thanks ladies x

Starting with dinner is absolutely fine Hun,I think the reason reason they say lunch is just I case of belly ache or something.remember that u don't NEED to start with rice,u can go straight on to fruit and veg purée if u want,or mixed of rice and purée mixed together.i tried Lola on rice at first and she didn't like it but mixed with purée she loved it but we still only used rice 3 times so if ur lo doesn't seem to keen don't get to disheartened xx

I would agree to the leaving out the rice - it is yuk! I made some a couple times when about to start weaning my daughter and when she made faces I realised why when I tasted it!!! If I wouldnt eat it I wouldnt give it to my LOs!!

We started with carrot and potato and brocolli mash, and then apples and pear mash.

And also, at 6 months you dont even need it to be purree either!!! You can serve finger food - chunk of steamed fruits and vegs for LO to nibble on. Purrees are hard work to make, just mashing your own food is easier

Pointless food and not good for baby either. Try something more nutritious.

Rice is good for extra calories. My LO has trouble gaining weight and reflux so weaning for diff reasons but we mix veg and milk in with baby rice for food that's nutritious and a little more calorific

If u wanna use it then u go ahead Hun,it's good for texture aswell according to my hv back then.mixed with puréed apple would be great as the texture of apple isn't great on its own at first.carrot is great, broccoli, butternut squash, potato, sweet potato, parsnips, banana.lola is an allergy sufferer (eczema) and couldn't have tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries or mangoes at first but now it's just blueberries and mangoes xx

I just bought baby rice to start with and LO had it 2 days running, will swallow about 4 spoonfuls but then pulls a face. I've bought loads of veg which I will be pureeing tomorrow but after baby rice today I gave her some pureed mango and she loved it, no face pulling and more than 4 spoonfuls. The rice does taste awful! xxx
