LO can't sleep properly

He is 4 months now and wants to sleep around 7-8 pm and I either rock or nurse to sleep or both. I put him to sleep downstairs because I know he will be up in 30 min. Then I rock or nurse him again, mostly just for comfort and put him down again. He will be up within 30-60 min and he will keep doing this until I take him up and we co-sleep and he sleeps properly. Problem is after 7 pm I'm trying to get dinner ready and then have dinner and I can't do both. No one else knows how to get him to sleep. How do I get him to sleep properly on his own?

I have the same problem. LO will only go to bed for the night when I get into bed with her around 10:30pm. She gets sleepy at about 7:30pm but I can't go to bed that early. I let her have a nap for half an hour or so at 7:30pm and then she gets up while we're having dinner then we bath her and put her back to bed at 10pm. I've tried getting her to go to bed earlier but she just keeps waking up so I figured that she's just not ready for her long sleep until later. How is your LO when she wakes up in the evenings? Does she seem awake again or does she want to go back to sleep?

I know with my daughter the problem was that all the noise and light in the living room was keeping her from a proper sleep...
I used to get her to sleep in my arms then pop her in her moses basket in our room after her feed (say 7pm ish). Then i would leave her with the monitor once she was asleep. I found that she needed the quiet and dark to actually get into a good sleep... she would always wake for another feed about our bedtime and we actually turned this into a dream feed as she got older...
But i know being apart from your LO isnt for everyone, and i remember running up and down the stairs checking on her constantly but it really worked for us
Also, we used to always fuss over her when trying to get her to learn to self settle and it used to take about an hour at night, sometimes i wonder if we fussed too much?!

We had and still sometimes have this problem. I agree with the noise we had to take her upstairs away from light and noise and this helped. She goes down and does stir/wake afer 30-60 mins. if she fully wakes we then try to settle her by placing hands on her tummy to reassure her if that doesn't work then we also do the pick up put down routine. This can take forever, some nights upto an hour but she had to learn it was bed time and that was that.
It can be super stressful when shes screaming at us but routine is the key so she has to learn shame it's not easier =o(

What time does your LO wake in the morning?

I have a similar problem, or not problem so much. My LO seems to only be prepared to go to sleep for the night around 11pm, tonight it was slightly earlier. I have always gone to bed at the same time to try n get enough sleep. I now have a co-sleeping cot & she can self settle. I would try n get her to go to bed earlier & she would just wake after 30mins (she is a 30min napper in the day) and then it would take forever to get her back to sleep. She stirs now after 30mins but I just give a quick nurse or try patting to get her sleepy again. In the morning she doesn't wake until around 10.30am (wakes for feeds in the night but resettles easily). I'm assuming she just prefers this later schedule.

I intend to try n move her bedtime over the coming weeks to nearer 9pm.

Could it just be that your LO isn't ready to sleep until 10.30pm?

Sometimes he does want to sleep other times I just nurse him back to sleep even though he doesn't seem like he wants to sleep. Should I wait until he shows me he wants to sleep again?

I think I read somewhere that if they're awake for half an hour or less then it's considered a night waking, if it's more than half an hour then it's a day waking. My LO wakes a lot during the night but will go straight back to sleep after nursing. When she wakes during the day she's awake for 2 hours before she's sleepy again. If I put LO to bed at 7:30pm she'll wake up an hour later and even if I nurse her she won't go back to sleep for another 2 hours.
