When does it count as 'sitting up' for the 1st time?

DS has been sitting supported very well the last few weeks and then sat on his own with no support for about 5-10 seconds the other day. When do you consider it as 1st time sat up?

Stalking, as I want to know this too! Bonnie is sitting up pretty good now, has been for a couple weeks and it's getting better every day. But we still have to watch her to make sure she doesn't topple over!

I counted the 1st time as when he was sitting up completely straight without falling foward in the tripod position.

Sitting up unsupported I counted when my LO could sit for 5-10 minutes without toppling over. So bang on 6 months I plonked her down one day and she sat quietly for about 15 minutes!

I called anything before that sat 'balancing' for a few seconds.

I counted sitting up properly as sitting straight, without using his hands or a cushion, for a good 5-10 minutes without falling. It was 6.5 months when he managed it although he was sitting with a BF cushion from about 4 months.

I looked this up ages ago. Your LO needs to be able to sit unaided for at least 1 minute. He can hold himself up by one hand, but has to be able to move that hand to pick up a toy without falling. x

Thanks ladies...I didn't want to not count it the other day if I was supposed to, but looks like I'm just getting over-zealous. At least he likes to practice in our bed and laughs every time he falls over...in due time

TBH though, from the point your LO is at, my LO just took another week until he was classed as sitting unaided. When they learn something new, they seem to learn it really fast. x

I count it from when my LO could sit himself up from laying on his stomach (6 months and 3 weeks). He has been sitting up unsupported for a long time.
