LO out in public

How do you feel about taking your LO out in public?

My LO is usually taken to a mother/baby room and fed and changed before we leave town to go home on the bus because I worry about my LO waking up on the bus and screaming the place down. I worry what people will think and it upsets me!!

How do you react to your LO crying in public?

Have you any advice on how to deal with it?

I also worry about this. People stare and it really upsets me. I've learnt now to time trips just after feeding. He's going three hours now so I do get a good two hours in town. X

I just deal with whatever e throws at me.., if he needs feeding I find somewhere nice to sit and feed him.. I tuck the corner a muslin in my bra strap, I refuse to use the baby rooms because the ones I have come across are foul! Either with toilets in them or stinky nappy bins... I wouldn't eat there so my baby isn't going to Either

Willow normally cries on walks while in her pram....I generally just say "i apologise for my child disturbing the peace, I've applied for an asbo for her already" to passers by who stare.

Normally get a "I know how you feel" comment, or a chuckle out of most people which breaks my thought pattern of feeling like a terrible mother! If they don't then I know they're a mardy arse!

If I'm stuck at a queue/checkout and she kicks off I try and pick her up, as she normally stops instantly! X

I hate it when my son cries on public, he only cries if he's hungry but he goes from fine to starving in seconds!

I used to freak out about feeding him when we were out, when he was little I would literally panic every second we were out about where I can feed him. I'm still picky if I get the cance but yesterday I fed him on the bus - lol id rather someone tut at my bfing than tut at my screaming baby

I felt really anxious when he used to cry in public, especially in a quiet place like a restaurant. I never get the bus but i remember one time I did and he screamed the whole time (he was hungry), but there was no way I could've fed him on the bus. I just felt so helpless and like a total failure and that people were looking and judging. it's got alot easier though and i'm much more relaxed, It's alot easier to tell what's wrong with him so I don't get as het up about his crying. When he cries, ppl will say oh i think he's hungry or tired etc and I will think to myself... you're wrong actually! and it's a nice feeling knowing your baby so well. I think thats partly why the crying upset me so much, I made myself feel like a failure rather than other people who were looking and probably just enjoying the drama lol.

LO rarely cries so I guess I don't cope as well as I could when she does. It also depends on the cry and where we are, if its just moaning I just give her something to play with and she always quietens down, if its scream crying due to exhaustion then its harder to quieten her and I can feel myself getting stressed!
Generally though, I don't really worry about going out. As long as shes napped before we go then all is well.

I'm fine feeding him wherever, I'll just find a handy bench. I did worry at first about what if he cried but I just take the sling with me and if he gets upset I pop him in and he goes to sleep or at least gets distracted by people watching.

eugh i totally agree about the feeding rooms... why put them in the same room as the toilets and baby changing facilities? they always STINK of poo.

Phew...I feel SOOOO much better knowing that Im not the only mother who worries about this subject, I constantly worry that when LO is crying on the bus that people think Im a bad mother, I love feeding, changing and then heading out so she sleeps the whole way, but the other day in the Health Centre she woke up and started crying, I felt so embarrassed that she was crying and people were looking!! Now when I see other mums out there with tiny babies that they are probably thinking Im judging them when their baby cries when really Im not, thank you for helping make me feel more relaxed about taking her out!! My OH says that babies cry and not to worry about what people think, its easier said than done though
