I still have to buy bottles and change out nipples. Especially when I go back to work. I never bought a sterilizer. I just wash everything in hot soapy water as the lactation consultant advised. Except when new. Then I boiled and sterilized before use.

We have a microwave sterilizer and tbh we have used it maybe twice? We generally just put all her feeding stuff in the dishwasher.

Let's see...
Pump $135
Nursing bras/ tanks $100

I didn't add in the cost of bottles, because FF use them too so it cancels out, but I got bottles for my baby shower that were probably $30 worth. I made my own pumping bra by cutting little holes in a zip front sports bra.

Also I saved over 3000 oz of expressed milk in my chest freezer and used ziploc bags. They are BPA free and I freeze 10 oz milk in a container, then when it is frozen I popped the milk cube into a ziploc baggie. I stopped nursing after around 7 months and I have enough frozen milk to last until LO is just past 1 year.

I think they estimate formula costs $1500 ish for the first year.

She's a month old and up until yesterday was feeding both. Now I'm just formula. So far she has eaten 11 8oz containers of formula and she is right at a month old. I buy it at Costco which sells 57 oz containers of enfimal infant for 40 bucks. Much cheaper than regular stores.

I was given a breast pump and nursing bras... Oh and lansinoh
Breast pads £2.50 for 40

Started ff at four months when milk dried up... Bottles, teats, steriliser, hungry baby formula then stay down formula then follow on milk= really friggin expensive!

veganmama, how do you not wear bras?? i don't when i'm in the house but when i go out or walk i feel like they bounce a bit too much. going from a 34 or 36 c to a 38DD during pregnancy really didn't help lol.

The worst is if you start off bf and it doesn't work out, then your LO has a protein allergy and you have to buy the expensive sensitive formulas. Geez:

Pump - $150
breast pads - Free from FSIL
Nursing Bras - $100
Lansinoh Cream - $6
Storage bags (that went unused - supply issues) - $10

Alimentum - $28.99 per can
Bottles, nipples, cleaning brushes etc..

Basically it is way more expensive to use formula, certainly wasn't my choice.

I lucked out and got a free $500 on an FSA account through doing a work health survey. Because of that my bags, breast pump and pads will be free until the money runs out (which should be a while). I have only bought bottles and bras which I would have had to buy anyway.
